  • Patent number: 6385307
Abstract: An apparatus for overriding an automatic answer function of a telephone answering device includes a host computer in communication with the telephone answering device. The host computer includes an application running on the host computer, and the telephone answering device includes a controller operatively connected to a ring counter. The application is operatively connected to the controller. The controller resets the ring counter in response to a command prefix from the application which disables an automatic answer function of the telephone answering device and enables the application to answer an incoming call by controlling the telephone answering device.

  • Patent number: 6208716
Abstract: A telephone answering apparatus for determining the time of message reception includes a host computer having a host clock operatively connected to an application running on the host computer. A telephone answering device includes a controller operatively connected to a device clock, and a memory device operatively connected to the controller to store a message. The application is operatively connected to the controller wherein the application resets the device clock and stores a host clock value on the host computer and adds an incremented device clock value assigned to the stored message to the host clock value to determine the actual time of message reception.

  • Patent number: 6208714
Abstract: A telephone answering apparatus for indicating the presence of a power-cycle includes a memory device which stores a retrieved message and a value from a clock, and a controller operatively connected to the memory device and to the clock. The controller initializes the value of the clock to a power-up value upon receiving power from a source and the power-up value is stored along with the retrieved message in the memory device. A user may retrieve the stored power-up value along with the message into an application that is running on a host computer which will indicate that no time was recorded for the retrieved message.
