  • Publication number: 20150027953
Abstract: The present invention discloses a silica particle having a diameter less than or equal to 2 ??, wherein the particle is spherical and comprises interconnected pores having a diameter in the range from 50 nm to 300 nm. The silica particle is preferably produced by spray pyrolysis (=spray drying) of a silica colloid. In the production process, porosity is introduced by means of an inorganic salt, such as NaCl, KCI, LiCl, NaNO3 or Ll NO3, which serves as a pore template. The silica particle may further be functionalized with proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and proteoglycans, preferably concanavalin A or avidin. The present invention further discloses the use of the silica particle in chromatography, in particular in affinity chromatography.

  • Publication number: 20080318332
Abstract: Specific glycomic profiles derived from human blood sera of breast cancer patients and prostate cancer patients were compared to those of disease-free females and males, respectively. The profiles were acquired using MALDI-MS of permethylated N-glycans released from 10-?l sample aliquots. Quantitative permethylation was attained using solid-phase permethylation. Principal component analysis of the glycomic profiles revealed significant differences among the two sets (diseased vs. non-diseased), allowing their distinct clustering. Several sialylated and fucosylated N-glycan structures were found to be useful as biomarkers for cancer, particularly breast cancer or prostate cancer.

  • Patent number: 6881588
Abstract: A fluid treatment device is disclosed for mixing first and second fluids. The first fluid may be a treatment liquid that is contained in a container and that is used to change a property, such as the pH, density or ionic strength, of the second fluid. In some illustrative embodiments, the fluid treatment device is used to create an effluent by adding a buffer material and/or a matrix material to an analyte for subsequent MALDI MS analysis of the effluent. A mixing space is defined in a container between ends of first and second conduits. In some embodiments, a junction member couples together the ends of the first and second conduits. The junction member has a main passage that receives the ends of the first and second conduits. The junction member has at least one opening that provides fluid communication between an interior region of the container and the mixing space.

  • Patent number: 6858135
Abstract: Polar, monolithic CEC columns having an amine and/or cyano functional stationary phase are used to separate complex mixtures of saccharides. • Patent number: 5310682
Abstract: Compounds containing .alpha.-discarbonyl groups are rendered capable of fluorescent emission by conjugation with carboxylic acid-terminated ortho-diaminoaryl reagents. The carboxylic acid groups serve as ionizable moieties which facilitate the conjugation reaction, and are retained in the conjugation product to enable, or enhance the ability of, the conjugated compounds to be separated in chromatographic and electromigration separation processes, notably electrophoresis. Ortho-dinitro derivatives of the reagents are also disclosed, these derivatives offering the advantage of stability as well as the ability to be used directly in the reaction in the presence of a reducing agent.
