  • Publication number: 20030079334
Abstract: A method is provided of designing a magnetic resonance imaging magnet. At least one correction coil is positioned about the axial bore of the magnet which receives patients. The correction coil is used in the design process to reduce lower order harmonics generated by the magnet. Homogeneity of the magnetic field is thereby improved at selected volumes around the magnet.

  • Publication number: 20030060701
Abstract: A method for winding on embedded b-zero coil maintains the integrity of superconducting main coil and the b-zero wire during coil winding and during normal operation of a superconducting MRI magnet. The b-zero coil is co-wound with an aluminum overwrap while the aluminum overwrap is being wound onto the superconducting MRI coil. The two-wire geometries are selected such that the height or thickness of the aluminum overwrap is greater than or equal to the height or thickness of the b-zero coil wire. The b-zero coil wire sits in a cavity that is created by adjacent turns.

  • Patent number: 6014069
Abstract: A correction coil current adjustment circuit for a superconducting magnet to selectively switch various coils in circuit with a power source to provide the desired superconducting current flow and magnetic field homogeneity for magnetic resonance imaging eliminating the need for some of the mechanical leads which extend from the exterior of the magnet to the interior of the cryogen vessel minimizing thermal leak paths and including simplified switching of the various main and correction magnet coils to provide the desired current flow. Inductive coupling from outside the magnet to induce correction coil current flow eliminates additional mechanical leads.

  • Patent number: 5973582
Abstract: In the installation of a superconducting magnet for magnetic resonance imaging at a preselected position in a mobile van, preselected curvilinear magnetic segments are applied to preselected locations on the exterior of the magnet to counteract magnet inhomogeneities in the imaging bore which would otherwise occur because of magnetic material in the van structure.

  • Patent number: 5783941
Abstract: Alignment during installation of an octant of a tokamak fusion toroidal magnetic takes place at room temperature or at low operating temperature of the magnet. In order to identify the magnetic center of the magnet, a toroidal magnet octant is electrically powered with equal but opposite flowing current and a spatially known probe is utilized to measure the magnetic field of such a powered octant.
