  • Patent number: 5150691
Abstract: This invention concerns a fuel injector for an engine having a combustion chamber provided with a plurality of intake ports, an intake manifold connected to these ports via a branch, intake valves which open and close the ports, and stems passing through the ports which support the intake valves. A fuel injector body is provided upstream of the branch, and the fuel delivered by this body is ejected near the valve stems of the intake ports via a guide pipe which is branched at its end. The openings in the ends of the guide pipe are preferably situated on the side of the center of the combustion chamber, and inject fuel only when the intake valves are open. A mixing mechanism may also be provided to mix fuel and air in the body of the fuel injector. The ends of the guide pipe may also be further branched toward respectively the center and the outside of the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4966107
Abstract: A valve clearance adjustment method is proposed which is effective in improving smoothness of an idle operation of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine at a low engine speed. This method features steps of selecting a crankshaft angle where one of an intake valve and an exhaust valve is seated while the other valve is being lifted from its seated position, and conducting the adjustment of a valve clearance for the seated valve at this crankshaft angle.

  • Patent number: 4915067
Abstract: A valve operating system for an automotive internal combustion engine. The valve operating system is comprised of a plurality of bearing sections formed in a cylinder head of the engine and adapted to rotatably support a camshaft formed with a plurality of bearing journal sections. Each bearing section has a generally cylindrical bearing surface defining a bore in which each camshaft bearing journal section is disposed. The peripheral surface of the camshaft bearing journal section is slidably contactable with the bearing section bearing surface. In a cross-section to which the axis of the bore is perpendicular, the bearing surface has a first diametrical distance in which reaction of a valve spring for an intake or exhaust valve is applied, and a second diametrical distance perpendicular to the above-mentioned direction.

  • Patent number: 4839831
Abstract: Herein disclosed is an oil degradation warning system for an engine equipped with a turbocharger. The system comprises first means for detecting the temperature of the engine oil in the turbocharger, second means for deriving a correction coefficient from informations issued from the first means; third means for multiplying a predetermined time increment by the correction coefficient to derive a modified time increment; fourth means for integrating the modified time increment to derive a time dependent oil degradation value; and fifth means for issuing a warning when the time dependent oil degradation value becomes equal to or larger than a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4706193
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an oil degradation warning system of a motor vehicle, which can issue a warning at the time when the oil change is really needed. The system comprises first means for detecting respective values of degradation factors of oil, the degradation factors being closely related to the operation history of the motor vehicle, second means for adding the values by using a predetermined calculation formula and integrating the added result with passage of time, third means for issuing a warning signal when the integrated result exceeds a predetermined limit, and fourth means which, when oil replenishment is carried out, postpones the issue of the warning signal in accordance with the amount of the replenished oil.

  • Patent number: 4694793
Abstract: In order to obviate the need to manually input data relating to the grade of oil used to lubricate an engine, a monitoring system includes a sensor which senses the grade of oil along with sensors which enable the oil change procedure per se to be detected. After each oil change the output of the oil grade sensor is read and the appropriate values which determine the limits to which the oil may be permitted to degradate are automatically determined.
