  • Patent number: 4383911
Abstract: A process for directly liquefying coal in a reactor including a preheating section and a reaction section, each having a plurality of pressure-resistant vertical pipes, comprises introducing into the preheating section a paste consisting of finely divided coal, catalyst and heavy oil. In the preheating section the paste is heated to a temperature of 380.degree. to 410.degree. C. and preheated hydrogen is blown into each pipe to create a velocity of Reynolds number equal to at least 3.times.10.sup.3 and an axial dispersion coefficient of not more than 0.05. The preheated paste and hydrogen are forwarded to the reaction section where they are heated to a temperature of 400.degree. to 500.degree. C. and further hydrogen is introduced into each pipe of the reaction section to maintain the velocity and axial dispersion values and a high partial pressure of hydrogen. The total quantity of hydrogen introduced is 1 to 3 times the stoichiometric value.

  • Patent number: 4382503
Abstract: Disclosed is a walking beam and more particularly its driving mechanisms whereby a material placed on a plurality of stationary beams for transfer, e.g., a steel product such as a steel pipe or round bar is raised from below, moved forward and lowered again onto the stationary beams by a plurality of transfer beams and this process is repeated to effect the transfer of the material. Each of the driving mechanisms includes a first link for causing the transfer beam to make a circular motion and the first link is rotatable about a supporting shaft with a radius of rotation l. The supporting shaft is fitted in the forward end of a second link and is rotatable about a main rotating shaft with a radius of rotation 2l. Mounted also on the supporting shaft is a first gear which is rotatable along with the first link and the first gear is in mesh with a second gear mounted on the main rotating shaft.

  • Patent number: 4367048
Abstract: A slurry storage tank comprises a central vertical column arranged therein. A drive mechanism is mounted on the upper portion of the column. A plurality of rake arms with rake elements are arranged within the tank adjacent to its bottom. The rake arms are slowly rotated about the column by the drive mechanism to direct the lower portion of the slurry toward the side wall of the tank. The slurry is withdrawn from the lower portion of the tank by a pumping means and delivered through a pipe means to a plurality of vertical guide pipes supported by the top wall of the tank and extending into the tank. The withdrawn slurry is distributed over the entire surface of the slurry in the tank through the guide pipes to thereby maintain the slurry in the tank in a homogeneous state.
