Abstract: A method and user interface is provided for creating a channel list. The user interface has a plurality of channels associated with a device. The number of times each channel is selected and the length of time user spends viewing each channel is then determined, such as via a processor. The channel set is then registered including at least one preference channel based on at least one of the determined number of times each channel is selected for viewing and determined length of time each channel of the device is selected for viewing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for fast access to internet applications (apps) using a remote control is disclosed herein. The method includes accessing a web app group, selecting an app from the web app group, adding the selected app to an input list, and accessing the selected app via an input button on the remote control.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for indexing data streams and generating an index file used during trick mode playback makes use of a demultiplexer that receives content formatted as a transport stream including a plurality of transport packets from a source. For each of the plurality of transport packets generates, the demultiplexer generates flag data indicating if the respective transport packet contains key frame data. A buffer includes at least one sub-buffer for storing the flag data and key frame data. An index processor parses the at least one sub-buffer to locate the flag data and uses the flag data to generate an index file including a position of each key frame in the transport stream to facilitate trick mode playback of the transport stream.

Abstract: Modern broadcast services have a need for improving channel selection in an MDU network. A method is disclosed including the steps of receiving a request for a program, comparing the requested program to a stored list of available programs, and providing an alternative if the requested program is unavailable. An apparatus is disclosed including a user interface receiving a request for a program from a user, a controller comparing the requested program to a stored list of available programs, and a network interface receiving data relating to programs available from a source when available programs from the source change and transmitting the requested program if the controller determines that the requested program is available.

Abstract: There is provided a system and method for providing television program reminders. More specifically, in one embodiment, there is provided a method comprising receiving television program selection data, comparing the television program selection data with descriptive data for a plurality of television programs, and presenting an alert message when the descriptive data for at least one of the plurality of television programs matches at least a portion of the television program selection data.
