  • Patent number: 3955138
Abstract: In the exemplary embodiment, a double-pole double-throw-C-MOS analog switch provides output signals alternately 180.degree. and 0.degree. with respect to the output of a single secondary winding on a current transformer, which single secondary winding is resistance terminated. The switch control signal is pulse-width modulated in proportion to the line voltage thus making the D.C. component of the net output from the analog switch proportional to the instantaneous product of line voltage and line current or power consumption. This power consumption signal is then conventionally processed to provide data indicating the total accumulated energy consumption in the monitored circuit.

  • Patent number: 3947763
Abstract: Metering kWh in an electrical system is accomplished by generating pairs of analog signals, representing current and voltage variables. Each pair of analog signals is multiplied together in a direct pulse-width conversion in a time-division multiplier network. A constant amplitude triangular generator is associated with the multiplier and the multiplier is implemented using C-MOS technology. A separate direct pulse-width multiplier network is provided for multiplying without introducing any phase shift each of the pairs of analog signals to form a series of width and amplitude-modulated pulse signals. The series of modulated pulse signals is converted in, for example, a low-pass filter to a signal having an amplitude representative of average power. For polyphase systems, the signals delivered from each of the multiplier channels are summed at the low-pass filter.

  • Patent number: 3942110
Abstract: A bipolar C-MOS analog to pulse rate converter is disclosed which provides a pulse train at its output having a frequency which is proportional to the magnitude of an analog input signal over a wide dynamic range. An analog input signal is integrated until the output of the integrator reaches a threshold level. A threshold detector generates a signal when the threshold level is reached which signal is coupled to a JK flip-flop. The JK flip-flop changes its state to thereby provide an output pulse and at the same time provide a switching pulse for coupling a DC reference source to the input of the integrator for resetting the integrator to a reference level. The flip-flop is then reset and the integrator again integrates the analog input signal to initiate a second cycle.

  • Patent number: 3939413
Abstract: A digital electrical pulse filter which provides output electrical pulses directly corresponding to input electrical pulses when the input pulses have a repetition rate greater than a predetermined repetition rate and which provides no output pulses when the input pulses have a repetition rate less than the predetermined repetition rate. An electronic energy consumption meter employing such a low cutoff digital pulse filter is also disclosed as well as a specific circuit for the filter employing complimentary pairs of C-MOS active elements in an arrangement which facilitates construction of the entire filtering circuit according to C-MOS integrated circuit construction techniques and which enhances the overall operation of such an integrated circuit filter.

  • Patent number: 3934198
Abstract: The metering of kilowatt hours in a single phase, three wire electrical system is accomplished by generating a first analog voltage which is representative of the voltage of the power consuming system. Second and third analog signals are generated which represent the current flowing through each of two of the three wires of the single phase power consuming system. The voltage representative analog signal is multiplied by each of the second and third current representative analog signals in either a direct pulse width amplitude multiplying network or in a feedback type pulse width amplitude time division multiplier network. A constant amplitude triangular generator is associated with the multiplier and the multiplier is implemented using C-MOS technology. The output modulated pulse signals from the multiplier are summed and converted in, for example, a low pass filter to a signal having an amplitude representative of the power in the power consuming system.
