  • Publication number: 20200332052
Abstract: An alkoxysilyl-containing polyurethane polymer composition is prepared using a urethane-forming organometallic catalyst which is then stabilized to moisture exposure by the addition of a mercapto-containing compound. The stabilized moisture-curable alkoxsilyl-containing polyurethane polymer composition is activated to moisture curing by the addition of a hydrolysis and condensation catalysts. The stabilized moisture-curable alkoxsilyl-containing polyurethane polymer composition is useful as a component in the preparation of coatings, adhesives, sealants, consumer goods and industrial goods.

  • Patent number: 8138297
Abstract: A moisture-curable silylated resin possessing improved storage stability and short cure time is obtained by reacting a prepolymer with a silylating reactant comprising silane (i) possessing three methoxy groups, silane (ii) possessing three alkoxy groups independently containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and, optionally, silane (iii) possessing two methoxy groups and one alkoxy group of from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and/or silane (iv) possessing one methoxy group and two alkoxy groups independently containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 6319982
Abstract: Novel hindered alkoxy siloxane compounds and compositions containing hindered alkoxy siloxane compounds are provided. The compositions include a polymer/crosslinking system which is composed of a self crosslinking resin comprised of a silicone fluid modified with pendant or terminal silanes containing hindered alkoxy groups, or a silanol fluid and a crosslinking compound, of a mixture thereof. These components are first emulsified and then formulated into a latex sealant by blending with a separate emulsion of an appropriate catalyst. Crosslinking occurs upon drying of the emulsion.

  • Patent number: 6294620
Abstract: Emulsions comprising a water insoluble or semi-soluble silane or mixtures of such silanes have been found useful when used alone or formulated into aqueous primer systems to improve the adhesion of sealants, adhesives or coatings to a variety of substrates. These aqueous primers are suitable for both inorganic and organic substrates having either porous or non-porous surfaces. In many cases they have been found to outperform solvent based primers. Primers of this type can be used with a variety of waterborne or solvent based sealants, adhesives or coatings including acrylic or polyurethane latexes, high solid polyurethanes, epoxies and silicones. When used with waterborne systems, it is not necessary to wait for the primer to dry before application of the sealant, adhesive or coating.

  • Patent number: 6204339
Abstract: This invention describes the use of blocked mercaptosilanes wherein the hydrogen atom of the mercaptan functionality has been substituted to manufacture coating, adhesive, sealant and elastomeric compositions. The blocked mercaptosilanes described are unique in that they allow the application of elastomers to substrates to proceed while remaining inert toward coupling to the catalyst. The coupling reactions of these blocked mercaptosilicon compounds are triggered by exposure to an appropriate deblocking agent.

  • Patent number: 6197912
Abstract: Moisture curable polymers having terminal or pendant silyl groups of the formula: where R1 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, optionally interupted with one or more ether oxygen atoms, or a group of the formula R2 represents a C1 to C6 alkoxy group or a C6-C8 aryloxy group; R3 represents an alkyl or an aryl group; T represents a branched or cyclic alkylene radical of 4 to 10 carbons, which may be optionally interrupted by one or more ether oxygen atoms; X is an alkylene group of 3-10 carbon atoms, which may be linear, branched or cyclic; and a is 0, 1 or 2, may be prepared by reacting (A) a compound having at least two isocyanate groups thereon with (B) a silane of formula (3): Moisture cured sealant formulations formulated with the polymers exhibit improved thermal stability, elongation, and tear resistance.
