    Abstract: A steel beam is reinforced by an attachment which creates a moment to counteract loads placed on the beam when it is incorporated into a structure. The attachment includes a transmitting member which is secured to the underside of the beam and a tensioned cable which is carried, in a tensioned state, by the transmitting member. The tensioned cable compresses the transmitting member creating an upward moment which is transmitted to the beam.
