Abstract: A vehicle wheel overlay attachment system disclosed herein provides for wheel overlays, or wheel skins, that are readily installable over existing wheels by securing directly to a wheel center cap. The center cap is adapted to be inserted into the center hub portion of the wheel, much like a traditional center cap, but also contains a system for securing a wheel overlay to the center cap. When properly installed on the center cap, the wheel overlay will be snugly positioned over the wheel thereby changing the appearance of the vehicle wheel.

Abstract: A vehicle wheel overlay is disclosed in which one or more extensions of the vehicle wheel overlay engages one or more lug nuts affixing a wheel to a vehicle body to securely attach the vehicle wheel overlay to the vehicle wheel/body. In an embodiment, the disclosed vehicle wheel overlay includes extensions that each includes a lip to engage a ridge or other structural feature of the lug nuts of the vehicle. In various embodiments, the lips are shaped to enable the vehicle wheel overlay to be readily installed and/or removed simply by pushing or pulling on the vehicle wheel overlay with respect to the vehicle wheel. In various embodiments, one or more additional attachment mechanisms attach the overly directly to the wheel in addition to engaging the lug nuts.

The molded wheel cover (22) is shaped to replicate the wheel and incorporates decorative design configurations (40) on its visual surfaces. Mushroom head studs (46) are integrally formed into the interior surface of the wheel cover and are positioned to penetrate the slots in the spokes as attachments for fastening the wheel cover to the alloy wheel.

A plurality of inward-protruding clips (32) are integrally formed within the slats and bars for connecting the grille to the vehicle. The clips are beveled (34) on an interior surface (36) and yield sufficiently to permit deflection over a vehicle grille, thus allowing the grille overlay to be snapped into place.
