  • Publication number: 20020062890
Abstract: The invention provides an assembly of a pneumatic tire and a rim. The tire has at least one carcass ply 2 and a belt layer 8. The ply 2 is composed of ply cords and has end portions. The belt layer 8 is composed of belt cords provided outside of the ply 2. Each belt cord extends in a direction intersecting the ply cord. Each of the end portions is held in the rim 12. The width of the tire is maximum in a circumferential cross section “T” with a cylindrical shape with respect to the center axis “D” of the tire. The cross section “T” extends through the rim 10. When the tire is rolled under a load and a stress is applied on the tire as an arrow “X”, a neighboring portion 2d near the end portions 2a, 2b is considerably bending-deformed as arrows “Y” to absorb the stress. The roundness of the belt layer 8 is thus preserved to reduce the rolling resistance of the tire considerably.

  • Patent number: 5141320
Abstract: A method for evaluating a gloss and brightness character of a coated paint film. The idea of the gloss and brightness cahracter is classified into three feelings, i.e., a smooth feeling, a thickness feeling and a gloss feeling. Three frequency regions for the respective three feelings are selected to be in well correlation to organoleptic values which are for the respective three feelings. In the evaluating method, the degree of a surface roughness of the coated paint film is converted into frequency components. Then the frequency regions are abstracted from the frequency components. The frequency regions are numerically estimated. Finally, the gloss and brightness character of the coated paint film is evaluated in accordance with the numerically estimated frequency regions.

  • Patent number: 4773379
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the exhaust-gas recirculation cycling of an engine includes an exhaust-gas recirculation passage connected at one end to an intake passage and at the other end to an exhaust passage. An exhaust-gas recirculation valve is provided in the recirculation passage to open and close it. The valve is coupled to an actuator having a pressure chamber and moved in accordance with the pressure within the chamber. The chamber communicates with first and second pressure sources through a solenoid valve. In order to move the recirculation valve to a desired position from the present position, the solenoid valve is controlled by a control device such that the first and second pressure sources are alternately connected to the pressure chamber when the distance between the present and desired positions is small, and such that the first or second pressure source is continuously connected to the pressure chamber when the distance between the present and desired positions is large.
