  • Publication number: 20110033675
Abstract: An identification document which includes anti-counterfeiting features to provide tamper evidence in response to counterfeiting attempts includes an image receiving area having one or more fixed or variable items of information. In one embodiment, a pattern of material is embedded into the image receiving layer in the vicinity of the one or more fixed or variable items of information in a predetermined configuration. The embedded pattern is comprised of a solvent insoluble material such that attempted delamination of the document using solvents results in visually detectable tampering.

  • Publication number: 20080304111
Abstract: A passport and identification card reader minimizes the time and effort required for an operator to read/scan a passport or piece of identification. An immigration official, for example, can slide a passport into place with one hand while tending to other important security activities with the other hand. Once in place, the passport will be automatically detected and read. Numerous passports bound together by a traveler with multiple visas can be held flat in place and accurately read, even with one hand, despite the natural tendency of the passport(s) to return to a closed position.

  • Publication number: 20060074986
Abstract: The system and methods disclosed herein validate the authenticity of a document and an individual's claimed identity. The system and method use a validation facility that is configurable to compare and match characteristics of biometric and non-biometric data presented by an individual with biometric and non-biometric data received from a request to a database or file system holding such information. The determination on the matching characteristics of the data can occur in completely automated fashion without intervention from the user, but user intervention is also possible allowing the user to review and override certain data discrepancies. The validation facility provides a user interface for use by a user to review a determination on the data analysis and instruct the validation facility to override that determination if the user determines the cause of the identity verification failure is within an acceptable criterion.

  • Patent number: 5661506
Abstract: An information recording system includes a writing paper having a writing surface and a prerecorded invisible pattern of pixels associated with the writing surface. Each of the pixels contains encoded, optically readable position information which identifies a coordinate position on the writing surface. The system includes a pen, having an instrument for writing on the writing surface, and an imaging system for providing image signals representative of images of the pixels near the pen tip when the tip is in contact with the surface. The system further includes a recording/processing unit coupled to the pen. The recording/processing unit includes a processor responsive to the image signals for determining and electronically recording the positions of the pen tip on the writing surface as the markings are made on the writing surface, so that the recording/processing unit contains an electronic representation of the markings on the writing surface.

Each of the pixels contains encoded, optically readable position information which identifies a coordinate position on the writing surface. The system further includes a pen having a tip and including an instrument for writing on the writing surface and a detector for detecting the position of the tip on the writing surface by optically reading the pixels and obtaining position information when the tip is in contact with the surface. The system further includes a recording unit coupled to the pen and responsive to the position information for electronically recording the position of the pen tip on the writing surface as the markings are made on the writing surface so that the recording unit contains an electronic representation of the markings on the writing surface.

  • Patent number: 5460646
Abstract: An infrared printing ink. The printing ink can be read with illumination by a near IR light source and an IR detector. The ink includes a pigment, a vehicle, and a solvent. The infrared ink pigment is silicon (IV) 2,3-naphthalocyanine bis((R.sub.1)(R.sub.2)(R.sub.3)-silyloxide) wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are selected from the group, consisting of an alkyl group, at least one aliphatic cyclic group and at least one aromatic ring. The present inks are produced by mixing the pigment with the solvent to form a colorant solution which is then stirred with the vehicle to form an ink paste.
