  • Patent number: 7870906
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a device for controlling flow within, e.g., a production well or an injection well. The device consists of a movable flow passage and a stationary variable choke or valve that is sensitive to flow parameters and automatically adjusts itself to provide a predetermined flow rate through the device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 9, 2008
Date of Patent: January 18, 2011
    Assignee: Schlumberger Technology Corporation
    Inventor: Mohammad Athar Ali
  • Patent number: 7828065
Abstract: A system that is usable with a well includes a closed loop network that is located entirely downhole in the well. The system also includes valves that are located in a wellbore of the well and are interconnected by the closed loop network. Each valve is associated with a different isolated region of the wellbore and is adapted to regulate a flow through the valve based at least in part on a flow condition of the isolated region associated with the valve and a flow condition of each of the other isolated regions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 2007
Date of Patent: November 9, 2010
    Assignee: Schlumberger Technology Corporation
Inventors: Donald W. Ross, Nashat Nustafa Jamil Hassan, Muhammad Shafiq, Mohammad Athar Ali, Anwar Ahmet Maher Assal, Yasser Mahmoud El-Khazindar

  • Publication number: 20080264651
Abstract: A technique for deploying a communication line in a tubing used in a wellbore. The communication line is positioned within the tubing which may be used to deploy a well device into a wellbore. Additionally, a reactive material is placed into the tubing. The consistency of the reactive material may be selectively changed so as to fill space between the cable and the tubing, thus providing support for the cable and/or pressure isolation along the tubing.

  • Publication number: 20080223585
Abstract: A tubing string including a tubing and an isolation valve is run into a well, where the tubing string is configured to receive an electrical pump. A first wet connect portion of the tubing string is engaged with a corresponding second wet connect portion that is part of a downhole completion section. A toolstring including the electrical pump is run into an inner bore of the tubing for engagement inside the tubing string. Removal of the toolstring including the electrical pump is enabled without removing the tubing string due to presence of the isolation valve.
