  • Patent number: 9069540
Abstract: An information handling system provides power to a peripheral through a peripheral interface, such as a USB interface, by communicating power availability with a primary set of power parameters through a data link and communicating power availability with a secondary set of power parameters through a power link. If a peripheral device has the capability to draw power at the second power parameters, it does so while monitoring for a fold back of host power that indicates power is not available at the second power parameters.

  • Patent number: 8327165
Abstract: A power supply input circuit includes an input node configured to removeably couple to an electrical source. A solid state switch is coupled between the input node and a capacitive load. An RC soft start circuit is coupled to the input node and the switch. The soft start circuit has a capacitor that causes the switch to increasingly pass electrical power from the source to the load as the capacitor charges from the source. An active reset circuit is coupled to the soft start circuit. The reset circuit is configured to detect when the source is removed from the input node and in response to the source being removed from the input node, the reset circuit discharges the capacitor to reset the soft start circuit.

  • Patent number: 7844844
Abstract: A power diagnostics module running on an information handling system initiates a power down state of the information handling system upon detection of a predetermined battery charge that is sufficient to allow the information handling system to recover from the power down state and run the power diagnostics module. The power diagnostics module runs on the predetermined charge to diagnose faults associated with the power system, such as failure of an external AC adapter, and to present the faults to an end user, such as at a display, with LEDs or through a network message.

  • Patent number: 7583055
Abstract: In response to detecting that a power adapter, having a first power rating lower than a second power rating of an information handling system (“IHS”), is coupled to the IHS and in response to a request indicating that the IHS is to be powered on, the power adapter is decoupled from the IHS so that the IHS receives power from a battery included by the IHS.

  • Patent number: 7436149
Abstract: Systems and methods for interfacing a battery system of a battery-powered keyboard system with main battery components of a battery-powered information handling system to enable a battery charging system of the battery-powered information handling system to charge both the main battery pack of the battery-powered information handling system and the battery pack of the battery-powered keyboard system without the presence of a separate stand-alone battery charger in the battery-powered keyboard system, and/or so that the keyboard battery of the battery-powered keyboard system may be used to supplement the main battery of the battery-powered information handling system such as in case of emergency power loss or to extend total battery life for running the information handling system.

  • Publication number: 20080203817
Abstract: Systems and methods that may be employed to provide a high-reliability power architecture for an information handling system and a physically separable (i.e., detachable) remote system. The information handling system may be, for example, a portable information handling system such as a notebook computer. The remote system may be, for example, a battery-powered input or input/output device such as a wireless keyboard configured to wirelessly communicate input/output information with the information handling system, and that is also configured to be physically and electrically coupled to the information handling system to allow a flow of current to be provided from circuitry of the information handling system to circuitry of the remote system. The power architecture may be implemented using multiple (e.g., two) Uninterrupted Power System (UPS) buses.

  • Patent number: 7378755
Abstract: An information handling system AC-to-DC adapter provides a low DC power output on initial application of an AC power input. The low DC power output supports communication between the adapter and the information handling system of adapter identification information. The information handling system confirms a proper connection with the adapter and sends an authorization to the adapter to output a high DC power output. The adapter monitors the connection with the information handling system to disable the high DC power output if not needed, such as if the information handling system is disconnected from the adapter or reaches a fully charged battery state.
