  • Publication number: 20070234192
Abstract: The encoding and distribution of schema for multimedia content descriptions are described. Before the schema is sent to a system for use, it is encoded by assigning a first token for each component in the schema and a second token for each attribute of each component. In one aspect, a signifier is sent first to signal that the schema is to be sent in a particular format. In one aspect, the schema is sent as a whole entity first. In another aspect, some of the components of the schema are sent first, followed by the schema that refers to these components. In another aspect, the schema is sent first, followed by a set of component types. When the decoder receives the signifier and encoded schema, it looks up values for the first and second tokens in a look up table for all components and attributes to decode the schema.

  • Publication number: 20070098083
Abstract: A parameter set is created to specify chroma format, luma bit depth, and chroma bit depth for a portion of multimedia data. The parameter set is encoded into a metadata file that is associated with the multimedia data. The parameter set is extracted from the metadata file if a decoder configuration record contains fields corresponding to the parameter set. In another aspect, the decoder configuration record is created with fields corresponding to the parameter set.

  • Patent number: 7203692
Abstract: Transcoding between content data and description data. The transcoding may include transcoding content data to corresponding description data. Additional description information to complete the description data may be requested. The transcoding may include transcoding description data to content data, including seeking content data items that match the description data. Content data items that best match the description data may be selected and included in the content data. A user may be requested to select items from a group of matching content data items. The content data may be stored according to the Moving Pictures Expert Group-4 (MPEG-4) standard, and the description data may be stored according to the MPEG-7 standard. The transcoding may be achieved via rules stored in the Extensible Stylesheet Transformation (XSLT) format. The transcoding may be implemented on a computing device, such as a personal computer.

  • Publication number: 20070016594
Abstract: The currently existing ISO/AVC file format is modified by providing extensions to store and access video content currently being defined by the SVC standard. Specifically, extensions to the AVC file format are made to provide a new SVC file format that enables the storage and access of scalable video data. The scalable video data is stored as a single track within a media data section of the SVC file format. New extensions are defined for description entries and boxes within a metadata section of the SVC file format. These extensions provide means for extracting sub-streams or layers from the single track of scalable video data stored in the media data section.

  • Publication number: 20060233247
Abstract: A system and method of coding (encoding and/or decoding) video content to extend file formats for storage. The system and method utilizes the concept to define additional sample group description entries. By way of example the method can comprise the steps of: (1) receiving a file with encoded media data as a scalable video codec stream; (2) extracting information identifying the various spatial resolutions, temporal resolutions, quality resolutions or combinations of spatio-temporal-quality resolutions from the media data; (3) generating new description entries and dependency grouping box; (4) populating boxes with extracted metadata; and (5) incorporating metadata into a file associated with the media data using a specific media file format.

  • Publication number: 20060067580
Abstract: A consumer electronic device includes a storage sub-system to store multimedia data associated with multiple camera views of a scene and metadata describing the multimedia data in separate tracks defined by a media file format. Each of the separate tracks corresponds to one of the multiple camera views of the scene. The consumer electronic device also includes a content processor to switch between the multiple camera views at run time using the metadata stored in the separate tracks.
