  • Patent number: 7777904
Abstract: A method and system for printing documents are provided. New print jobs are automatically analysed with respect to the device-specific properties of the individual pages and each page is designated, on the basis of the analysis, either for processing on a printer of the first type or the second type. Then, the jobs are made locally available for printing on each of the printers. A user may locally start a job on any of the printers and that printer then automatically selects and prints only the pages of the job that are designated for processing on its own type of printer. Then, the user may locally start that same job on any of the printers of the other type and that printer then also automatically selects and prints only the pages of the job designated for processing on its own type of printer.

  • Patent number: 6970260
Abstract: A system and method for generating digitized documents for a digital environment, having at least one scanner, a local operator control unit, and a management unit connected to the scanner or scanners. The management unit is provided with an input unit for receiving, from the digital environment, a request for a digitized document; a warning device for communicating a request for a digitized document to at least one scanner; a receiving unit for receiving from a scanner an acceptance of a request selected via the operator control unit; and an allocation unit whereby, in response to the acceptance, a scan order for generation of the digitized document requested in the said selected request is allocated to the scanner which sent the acceptance. This enables incoming scan orders to be held until a scanner is ready to execute them, without in any way interfering with current scanning processes.

  • Patent number: 6894793
Abstract: In an information processing system including workstations and printers interconnected by a network, current collective status information of a set of print jobs of a user is displayed permanently in icon form on the screen of the workstation of the user. The status is presented as one of three possible states: (1) active: there is still at least one print job of the set not ready; (2) passive: all the jobs of the set are ready, or the set is empty; or (3) error: a job of the set has caused an error in the printer. The set can include all the print jobs of a user, or a selection thereof. In response to a double mouse click on an icon, extensive information concerning the print jobs of the set to which the icon relates is displayed. As an alternative to permanent presentation in icon form, presentation can also be in the form of messages on the screen at the user's workstation when the status of the set changes.

  • Patent number: 6856413
Abstract: A user interface for an information-processing system having workstations for users and a number of printers on which it is possible to print files made at a workstation, all connected by a network. The print jobs of a user which have been sent to the printers are presented at his workstation in a list in combination with the name of the printer to which they have been sent. This applies to jobs which have not yet been or already have been finished in which the status of the job is also indicated. In this way a user can most efficiently direct his print jobs to an appropriate printer and thereafter track, via an actualized overview, all of his print jobs, their status and location. This permits a user to more readily find, control, and manage his print jobs.

  • Patent number: 6618163
Abstract: In an information-processing system having workstations and at least one printer interconnected by a digital network, the current state of the printer or printers is presented on the screen of a workstation in the form of an icon. The printers are of a type which can carry out printing processes in an autonomous mode, in which a print job sent from a workstation is executed directly, and in a command-controlled mode in which a reproduction process, including a copying process, must be started from an operator control panel on the printer. When the printer is “occupied” in the autonomous mode, a different icon is displayed from that displayed when the printer is “occupied” in the command-controlled mode.
