  • Patent number: 6843484
Abstract: There is provided a keyless chuck, a clutch assembly, and an associated method for releasably gripping a bit. The chuck includes a jaw assembly that is adjustable between open and closed positions, a threaded shaft in operable communication with the jaw assembly, and at least one clutch member. Each clutch member is adjustable between an engaged position and a disengaged position. In the engaged position, each clutch member threadably engages the threaded shaft, such that the threaded shaft translates axially and adjusts the jaw assembly between the open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 6604895
Abstract: The aircraft panel detab router to trim tabs from airframe parts such as wing elements, panels and airframe skin structures includes a tool fixture having a clamping mechanism for securing to a panel edge. The tool fixture includes a linear slide to which a sliding assembly is slidably engaged. The sliding assembly includes an eccentric cam ring mount for retaining and position adjustment of a router relative to the panel edge. The router has a cutting tool attached which cutting tool at its distal end is also supported by a support arm attached to the sliding assembly. A vacuum manifold is also attached to the sliding assembly to remove debris created by the trimming action of the cutter tool.

  • Patent number: 5409327
Abstract: An apparatus for drilling lock wire holes in lock wire nuts includes a variable speed drill press mounted on a work bench and having a vertically movable drill quill supporting a rotating drill spindle on one end of which is mounted a drill chuck for holding and driving a drill bit for drilling a hole in the lock wire nuts. An N/C microprocessor is coupled to the drill press for controlling the vertical motion of the drill quill in a peck drill cycle. A nut holder, including a collet chuck having three jaw inserts is mounted in a chuck indexer for positioning the chuck in any of three 120.degree. angularly spaced positions about a central longitudinal axis through the chuck. A drill guide in each of said jaw inserts guides the drill bit at an angle against said faces of said nuts to drill lock wire holes through the nut lobes.

  • Patent number: 5174174
Abstract: The present invention is a tool for installing a restrictor plate 14 in a shock strut cylinder 10. It includes a first tool member 12 having an elongated handle 24 with proximal 22 and distal 38 ends and a longitudinal axis. The distal end 38 includes a controllable attachment 25 for providing an axially-centered locking grasp on a restrictor plate 14. A first control 36 which is operable by a user from the proximal end 22 controls the attachment 25. The distal end 38 includes a pivoting head 40 for movement of the restrictor plate 14 between a first position which is in axial alignment with the handle 24 and a second position which is transverse to the axis of the handle 24. A second control 20 is operable by a user from the proximal end 22 to control the position of the pivot head 40. A second tool member 28 has a hollow elongated handle 32 with proximal 114 and distal 116 ends and is sized to axially telescope over the elongated handle 24 of the first tool member 12.
