  • Patent number: 7121167
Abstract: A flat headed, reversible power ratchet of relatively small size which uses integral bosses and apertures in its housing to locate and control the movement of its yoke and driving gears on bosses integral to the housing with the driving gear mounted in a bore within the yoke, which has its pawls and pawl controls within the yoke adjacent the gear, and by utilizing a pair of linkages which pivot about the yoke and about the housing in overlapping arcs to stabilize the position of the directional controls during operations.

  • Patent number: 6282990
Abstract: A low profile substantially flat head power ratchet comprising a pair of spaced shells joined together to for a housing which is tubular at one end for attachment to a pneumatic motor and flat at the other end for operating use in confined areas, said ratchet comprising a gear journaled on a post in the upper shell and a boss on the lower shell, a yoke disposed about the gear and pivotally journaled about the boss, a pair of spaced pawls confined primarily in the yoke but projecting slightly upwards therefrom, and a reversing plate pivotally disposed about the post and lying on the yoke between the pawls, said reversing plate being shaped and sized such that only one of the two pawls may be selectively engaged with the gear at any one given time.

  • Patent number: 6006631
Abstract: An adapter is provided to enable conventional post driven sockets to be used in conjunction with through-hole ratchets, which adapter includes a housing sized and shaped for nested engagement in the socket holding member of the through-hole ratchet, a square post which is sized for snug fitting disposition in the post hole of a conventional socket, a release actuator slidably mounted in the housing and post, a pair of lock balls movably disposed in the post in such manner that said lock balls are urged outwardly from the post and into contact with the sides of the conventional socket's post hole when the release actuator is in its fully outward position with respect to the housing and which are free to move when the actuator is in the fully depressed position, and a spring in biasing engagement with the housing and the release actuator for providing a biasing force which normally biases the release actuator to its fully outward position with respect to the housing.

  • Patent number: 5738192
Abstract: A power tool is provided with a yoke having first and second chambers each of which open into said bore; an annular toothed gear is rotatably disposed in said bore, each gear tooth being rounded at its outer extremity and each gap between adjacent teeth being rounded in such manner that the outwardly presented angle of each gap is greater than the inwardly presented angle of each tooth; one pawl comprising a cylindrical element and a wing is pivotally disposed in each chamber, each wing having a first pawl tooth sized for snug fitting disposition between adjacent gear teeth and a second pawl tooth which is sized and shaped for using an adjacent gear tooth to urge the first pawl tooth snugly into a gap on the gear as the first pawl is pivoted toward the gear; a biasing member in each chamber which urges the wing towards the gear, and a direction control which selectively allows only one of the two pawls to engage the gear as the yoke is moved with respect to the gear.

  • Patent number: 5647252
Abstract: The invention relates to reversible manually operated ratchets in which a yoke provided with separated pawl containing chambers is secured in a handle, a toothed gear and a reverse button are rotatably disposed in a large bore in the yoke and secured therein between opposing ears of the handle, separated pawls each pivotally mounted in the yoke are spring biased toward the teeth in the gear, a hexagonal chamber containing latching means in the gear secures a through hole socket open at both ends, and control faces on the periphery of the reverse button allow preselected pawl or neither pawl access to the toothed gear.

  • Patent number: 5450773
Abstract: A power-driven hand tool including a housing having first and second housing parts having first and second coaxial openings therethrough. A driving element is movably positioned between the housing parts and has a third opening in coaxial alignment between the first and second openings. A motor is mounted on the housing and connects through a motion-transfer device to the driving element for causing angular oscillation thereof about a tool-driving axis. An annular socket-driving member is rotatably supported within the first opening and has a bore therethrough coaxial with the axis for releasably but drivingly engaging a removable socket. The socket-driving member has a gear rotatably positioned in the third opening. First and second pawls are mounted on the driving element for engagement with the gear for respectively causing rotational driving movement of the socket in opposite first and second directions.

  • Patent number: 5448930
Abstract: The invention relates to through hole sockets for use in power driven ratchets in which a spring mounted in a slot in the ratchet drive wheel is biased into the space in the center of the drive wheel where the socket is disposed, and the socket is provided with a recess which accepts the ends of the spring holding the socket in registration with the drive wheel during powered rotation. The recess is deep enough that more than minimal force is required to urge the spring end back into the drive wheel to permit removal of the socket.
