  • Patent number: 4756664
Abstract: The scavenge oil system disclosing the invention has a scavenge oil outlet located at the bottom of a blower housing whereby lubricating oil can flow thereto by gravity in most attitudinal positions of the housing. When the blower housing is in an attitude that a portion thereof, such as the rear, is at a level lower than the scavenge oil outlet, a scavenge pump, having an impeller driven by the blower shaft, is rendered effectively operable by having an inlet beneath the level of oil at the rear of the housing and the scavenge pump pumps the oil to a higher level whereby it may flow from the housing by gravity through either the scavenge oil outlet of the housing or through other passages.

  • Patent number: 4743163
Abstract: A blade pitch control mechanism for a ram air driven turbine blade mounted for rotation on a hub assembly having a central axis. A governor control member, including a seat, is mounted on a portion of the hub assembly for reciprocation along the central axis. A first spring acts on the governor control member in a first axial direction. A governor slide member is mounted for reciprocation along the central axis. The blade is in mating engagement with the governor slide member. A second spring acts between the governor slide member and the seat of the governor control member for biasing the slide member opposite the first axial direction. This causes the blade to assume a course pitch when the blade and hub assembly are in storage and to allow the blade to move to fine pitch during start-up. A flyweight is mounted on the hub assembly and engages the governor control member for acting against the first spring to control blade pitch and govern turbine speed after start-up.

  • Patent number: 4742976
Abstract: A ram air turbine and deployment mechanism has commonly had power-generating means in the form of either one, or both, of a hydraulic pump and electrical generator mounted at the end of a pivotal strut adjacent the ram air turbine. Relocation of the power-generating means can provide a system with improved operation, lesser weight and other improvements over prior known systems. The ram air turbine is mounted at the end of a pivotal strut for movement between stowed and deployed positions. The electrical generator forms a major part of the strut and is located close to the pivot axis of the strut. The hydraulic pump is mounted to aircraft structure within the stowing compartment of the aircraft and has a driven member aligned with the pivot axis of the pivotal strut.

  • Patent number: 4717095
Abstract: An indexing mechanism for use with a deployment mechanism of a ram air turbine having front and rear linkages pivotally connected at one of their ends within the storage bay of an aircraft and their other ends pivotally connected to a housing for the ram air turbine, for moving the ram air turbine between a stowed and deployed position. The improved indexing mechanism includes a spring-loaded detent member coupled to the housing which engages a slot in the turbine hub preventing rotation of the turbine hub and blade when the ram air turbine is in the stowed position. Coupled to the rear linkage adjacent the pivot joint at the ram air turbine is a cam member which moves through an arc as the ram air turbine is deployed, said cam member engaging the spring-loaded detent member to release the turbine hub and blade as the ram air turbine nears the fully deployed position.

  • Patent number: 4676458
Abstract: Deployment mechanism for a ram air turbine has conventionally consisted of a strut pivotally mounted within a storage bay of an aircraft and which pivots to a downwardly-extending position to bring the ram air turbine into deployed position. Such a structure has required a storage bay in the aircraft having a large stowing volume because of the primarily rotational movement of the ram air turbine and has not maximized the speed of deployment of the ram air turbine. The improved deployment mechanism for the ram air turbine has front and rear linkages pivotally connected at one of their ends within the storage bay of the aircraft and their other ends pivotally connected to the ram air turbine and includes a spring-loaded deployment actuator operable to move the ram air turbine from stowed position.

  • Patent number: 4596360
Abstract: To eliminate the effect of variables such as pressure and temperature on the operation of a pilot operated, pressure regulating valve, a poppet (30) is disposed between two ports (20), (34) in a valve body (14) and is biased towards a seat (26) by a pair of bellows (50), (58) which in turn are selectively compressed by an elongated rod (68). The bellows (50), (58) are disposed in opposing relation and have their interiors vented to eliminate the effect of ambient pressure while the body (14) and the rod (68) are made of materials having differing coefficients of thermal expansion to provide for temperature compensation.
