  • Patent number: 6731913
Abstract: An enclosure for a portable electronic device such as a mobile telephone. The enclosure includes a cover made of an elastomer so that it can be stretched over the chassis containing the device's internal components. Raised keys formed on the elastomeric enclosure surface are marked according to their function. The marked key preferably forms a raised portion on the front of the device, that is, the front cover of the enclosure, and cause key pegs extending from the interior wall to close switches on the device's internal component assembly. Various structures formed in the elastomeric cover correspond with features of the chassis so as to tend to retain it in position.

  • Publication number: 20020065054
Abstract: A elastomeric cover (300) is disclosed having a perimeter grip (321) for fitting on a raised lens of a mobile station. The elastomeric cover may have at least one strap (351), which may encircle parts of the mobile station. Button key-tops may be covered by the elastomeric cover, wherein the elastomeric cover may flex sufficiently so that the key-top may actuate a circuit. The elastomeric cover may block fluid ingress into the mobile station. The elastomeric cover may be removable without the use of tools.

  • Patent number: 6141417
Abstract: A holder for a mobile telephone is disclosed. The holder has a securing mechanism that securely holds a mobile telephone within the holder and allows easy movement of the mobile telephone from and into a secure position within the holder. In an embodiment of the invention, the holder includes a cradle unit that has a securing mechanism including a securing pin flexibly formed on the top end of the cradle unit and a securing pocket formed on the bottom end of the cradle unit. A mobile telephone may be secured in the cradle by placing the bottom portion of the mobile telephone in the securing pocket and moving the mobile telephone into the cradle unit, allowing the securing pin to snap into a securing notch that is formed on the top portion of the mobile telephone. The cradle unit may be formed of a single piece body. The cradle unit may also be formed to encompass the mobile telephone to provide a better tactual grip than is provided by the body of the mobile telephone alone.

  • Patent number: 5661797
Abstract: A unique hinge construction is provided for pivotally connecting a cover to a main body of a transceiver. The main body comprises a base and upstanding sidewalls and an endwall. Movable between a closed position generally overlying the main body and an operative angularly disposed position, the cover includes a pair of spaced apart ears projecting from an end thereof, the ears having opposed key slots formed therein being aligned with opposed mounting bores in the sidewalls adjacent the endwall. A pair of hinge shafts are rotatably received in an associated one of the mounting bores in the sidewalls on the main body. Each hinge shaft includes a key member engageable with an associated one of the key slots in the opposed ears for rotation therewith and a central member having a uniformly contoured outer surface defined by elevationally opposed convex shaped lobes, laterally opposed concave shaped depressions, and smooth transition zones joining the lobes and said depressions.
