  • Patent number: 4438870
Abstract: A captive dispensing cap construction for a container, comprising a body part having a discharge passage, and a stopper extending upwardly from the passage. A screw cap part is carried by the body part and has a discharge opening into which the stopper extends when the screw cap part is screwed to its full-on position. The screw cap part and body part have two pairs of mutually engageable portions, one comprising cooperable screw threads for moving the screw cap part axially on the body part as the cap part is turned, and the other comprising a cam track on the body part and a follower portion on the screw cap part. The screw threads have sufficient backlash to enable the screw cap part to have an initial unscrewing turning movement from its fully screwed-on position through an angle essentially in excess of 20.degree. before axial outward displacement of the cap part occurs.

  • Patent number: 4298129
Abstract: A childproof safety screw cap and container having yieldable cap retainer means which are overcome, to effect cap removal, by a quarter-turn twist that produces a relatively large axial cap travel due to the provision of multiple screw thread elements thereon. The cap can be pushed straight on, accompanied by bypassing of the threads. The retainer means and the threads increase their interlock action if the cap is squeezed laterally, as by the act of a child applying its teeth to the cap. A shielding flange on the container defeats efforts to bite the cap under its bottom rim, and a bevelled top peripheral portion of the cap defeats its being gripped at the top, by the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4281778
Abstract: A closure cap construction for a dispensing container, the cap portion thereof being of the type intended to be held permanently captive on the container and having a dispensing orifice permitting selective discharge of the container contents. The cap portion comprises a body having an internal, double-helical screw thread adapted to engage a corresponding screw thread on the neck of the container. In addition, the body has an internal, downwardly facing shoulder from which there extends a series of molded, integral locking ratchet teeth. The upper ends of the teeth are joined to the shoulder so that the latter provides a stiffening effect which minimizes undesirable flexing or deformation of the teeth. The opposite or lower ends of the teeth are exposed and unconnected, and are intended to by-pass a series of cooperable locking ratchet teeth on the container neck.
