  • Publication number: 20090190467
Abstract: A system, method and computer readable media for detecting and managing fault within a network using the network's label distribution protocol transactions. Initially, the system will monitor and analyze all transactions within the network to determine if the network has degraded at or between any nodes in the system. The system can then recognize if there is any failure and determine if the network has degraded past a threshold value that is needed for proper operation. If the network has a failure that is beyond this threshold, it will notify a fault management system and subsequently a ticketing system to notify the user that a failure within the system has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20090158098
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing reliable fault management for a network are disclosed. For example, a method receives one or more alarms from one or more network elements (NEs) by an element management system, and determines whether the one or more alarms need to be forwarded to a fault management platform (FMP) over a wireless data network. The method then forwards the one or more alarms over the wireless data network if it is determined that the one or more alarms need to be forwarded over the wireless data network.

  • Publication number: 20090116379
Abstract: A network connection is established between a multimedia viewer at a viewer's premises and a service provider. The viewer requests presentation of a multimedia channel via the multimedia viewer. In response to the request, an available bandwidth of the network connection is determined, as is a bandwidth requirement of the requested multimedia channel. In response to determining the bandwidth requirement is inconsistent with the available bandwidth, the viewer is provided with an indicator that the first multimedia channel is unavailable for presentation by the multimedia receiver. In response to determining the bandwidth requirement is consistent with the available bandwidth, data representing the content of the requested multimedia channel is transmitted to the multimedia receiver for presentation to the viewer.

  • Publication number: 20090106809
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) network element can have a wireless transceiver, a wireline transceiver, and a controller. The controller can be adapted to process multimedia signals received from an upstream IPTV network element, transmit the processed multimedia signals to one or more downstream IPTV network elements, monitor communications on a wireline interface capable of accessing a fault management system (FMS), and cause the wireless access transceiver to wirelessly transmit to the FMS telemetry information collected responsive to detecting one or more faults in the wireline interface. The controller can also cause the wireline transceiver to transmit to the FMS over the wireline interface the telemetry information responsive to detecting no fault in the wireline interface that impedes communication with the FMS over the wireline interface. Other embodiments are disclosed.
