  • Patent number: 5466209
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a low-priced automatized weight control device for filter-rods, able to be easily installed in present manufacturing facilities and to be operated easily without any need of special equipment or special operating qualifications. The automatized weight-control device is comprised of a tension gauge measuring the tension in the tow in the first processing step of the tow manufacturing process, and a weight control system to regulate the second processing step to keep the tension in the tow at the specified constant value by increasing the speed of the pretension rollers through the microcomputer by applying the signals transmitted from the tension gauge.

  • Patent number: 4360022
Abstract: A sanitary napkin comprising a filler including a water-permeable layer of hydrophobic fibers for passing the body fluid therethrough and an absorbing layer underlying the layer for absorbing the fluid, and a water-permeable covering which covers the filler. The napkin is used with the water-permeable layer in contact with the human body. The water permeable layer has outstanding water permeability and functions to prevent reverse flow, permitting the absorbing layer to readily absorb the body fluid while preventing the fluid from returning toward the body. The napkin therefore has an agreeable feel at all times during use without feeling wet or sticky. The cushioning property of the water-permeable layer also gives a comfortable feel.

  • Patent number: 4246009
Abstract: A smoke filter for removing injurious components from the smoke. Comprises a fiber matrix in conjunction with a water-swellable synthetic mica. The fiber matrix may be made of cellulose acetate, regenerated cellulose, or the like. The water-swellable synthetic mica is of the general formulaW.sub.1/3 to 1 (X,Y).sub.2.5 to 3 (Si.sub.4 O.sub.10)F.sub.2wherein W is Na or Li cation, and X and Y represent 6-coordinate ions, for example, Mg and Li. Suitable synthetic micas include Na-tetrasilicic mica, Na-taeniolite, Li-taeniolite, Na-hectorite, and Li-hectorite.

  • Patent number: 4007746
Abstract: A method for preparing a cellulose acetate fiber rod is provided, which is characterized by blooming a tow composed of cellulose acetate fibers, adding to or coating on the bloomed tow from 1 to 20 percent by weight (based on the weight of the cellulose acetate fibers) of a plasticizer comprising 1,4-butanediol diacetate, and gathering and curing the resulting cellulose acetate fibers at much higher speed than is possible in the conventional methods to form a cigarette filter rod which does not harm cigarette flavor and smoking taste.
