Abstract: A timing data table in which timing data is registered for respective types of video signals defined by frequency and polarity of a respective synchronizing signal is provided in a nonvolatile memory. A main control part retrieves the timing data table with the type of the video signal as a retrieval key to acquire pertinent timing data, and, using this timing data, necessary adjustment parameters (that is, horizontal position adjustment parameter, horizontal size adjustment parameter, vertical position adjustment parameter and vertical size adjustment parameter) are calculated by operations and outputted to a horizontal deflection control circuit and to a vertical deflection control circuit. Thereby, a video display apparatus and a video display method capable of reducing time required to make adjustments and performing correct and highly responsive video display regardless of the types of video signals are provided.

Kind of an input video signal S1 is determined based on prestored characteristic information on video signals, and the input video signal S1 is displayed in picture according to the characteristic information based on the above determined result, so that a suitable displayed picture can be obtained corresponding to the input video signal 1.

Also, a method for using the apparatus includes controlling the brightness of the display screen of the video display apparatus having an on-screen display portion while maintaining the brightness of the on-screen display portion substantially constant.

Also, a method for displaying the power-save modes of a computer video display monitor having a plurality of power saving modes that are automatically selected by the computer uses a display element capable of emitting light of at least two colors and includes the steps of detecting a power-save mode among the plurality of power-save modes and varying the period of light emission of each color to correspond to the different detected power-save modes.

Abstract: A video display apparatus capable of communicating with an external controller includes a microcontroller for receiving commands from an external controller, a first non-volatile memory for storing data relating to the video display apparatus, first bus line for connecting the external controller with the microcontroller and the first non-volatile memory, a second non-volatile memory for storing the same data that is stored in the first non-volatile memory, and second bus lines for connecting the second non-volatile memory with the microcontroller.
