  • Publication number: 20180056998
Abstract: A method generates a time-series signal indicative of a variation of the environment in vicinity of the vehicle with respect to a motion of the vehicle and determines, using the time-series signal, a trajectory of the vehicle to a location different from a current location of the vehicle, the trajectory of the vehicle is a function of time. The method transmits the trajectory of the vehicle to a remote vehicle and controls a motion of the vehicle according to the trajectory of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9897984
Abstract: A method controls a system for a multiple control steps according to the reference trajectory of a task of the operation to produce an actual trajectory of the system completing the task of the operation. For each control step, a control input to the system is determined using a model predictive control (MPC) having at least one parameter of uncertainty. The method determines a value of a learning cost function of a distance between the reference trajectory and the actual trajectory and determines, using a model free optimization, a value of the parameter of uncertainty reducing the value of the learning cost function. Next, the method determines a set of control inputs for completing the task according to the reference trajectory using the MPC with the updated parameter of uncertainty.

  • Patent number: 9892520
Abstract: A method and system determines flows by first acquiring a video of the flows with a camera, wherein the flows are pedestrians in a scene, wherein the video includes a set of frames. Motion vectors are extracted from each frame in the set, and a data matrix is constructed from the motion vectors in the set of frames. A low rank Koopman operator is determined from the data matrix and a spectrum of the low rank Koopman operator is analyzed to determine a set of Koopman modes. Then, the frames are segmented into independent flows according to a clustering of the Koopman modes.

  • Publication number: 20180026449
Abstract: A voltage at a point of common coupling (PCC) between a photovoltaic (PV) system and a power grid is regulated by a controller having a gain determined according to a gain function that is a function of a time. The gain function is determined based on an error between the voltage measured at the PCC and the reference voltage, and the gain is updated according to the updated gain function and a current instance of time. The controller generates a modulating signal using the updated gain and the voltage at the PCC is regulated according to the modulating signal.

  • Patent number: 9475674
Abstract: A method reduces a sway of an elevator rope supporting an elevator car by controlling a tension of the elevator rope. The tension is controlled using a movement of the elevator sheave according to a control law of the tension of the elevator rope between two points. The first point is associated with a contact of the elevator rope with the elevator sheave. The second point is associated with a contact of the elevator rope with the elevator car or a counterweight of the elevator car. The control law is a function of one or combination of a relative position, a relative velocity and a relative acceleration between the first and the second points.

  • Publication number: 20160258644
Abstract: A method controls an operation of an air-conditioning system generating airflow in a conditioned environment. The method updates a model of airflow dynamics connecting values of flow and temperature of air conditioned during the operation of the air-conditioning system. The model is updated interactively iteratively to reduce an error between values of the airflow determined according to the model and values of the airflow measured during the operation. Next, the method models the airflow using the updated model and controls the operation of the air-conditioning system using the model.

  • Patent number: 9419437
Abstract: A distributed energy resource (DER) exchanges with each neighboring DER portions of the total demand for power accumulated by the DER and each neighboring DER and portions of a total capability of the network to generate the total power accumulated by the DER and each neighboring DER before each communication step. The DER updates the portion of the total demand for power and total capability accumulated by the DER using the portions of the total demand and the portions of the total capability received from the neighboring DERs. After the fixed number of communication steps, the DER accumulates the total demand for power and the total capability of the network and generates an amount of the power as a product of the total demand for the power and a ratio of a maximum capability of the DER to generate the power and the total capability of the network.

  • Publication number: 20160071013
Abstract: A method estimates an optimal power flows (OPF) in a power grid, which is represented as a graph partitioned into virtual sub-graphs, each including at least one bus, and associated with agents that measure local variables and updates consensus variables (CV). The consensus variables of adjacent virtual sub-graphs are exchanged and updated using the agents. An OPF problem is solved for the virtual sub-graphs using the agents based on the CV and the local variables. The exchanging and the solving are iterated until a termination condition is satisfied, when the optimal OPF is outputted for each virtual sub-graph.

  • Patent number: 9278829
Abstract: A method controls an operation of an elevator system using a control law to stabilize a state of the elevator system using a tension of an elevator rope. A derivative of a Lyapunov function along dynamics of the elevator system controlled by the control law is negative definite. The control law is a function of amplitude of a sway of the elevator rope and a velocity of the sway of the elevator rope. The method determines the amplitude of the sway of the elevator rope and the velocity of the sway of the elevator rope during the operation, and determines a magnitude of the tension of the elevator rope based on the control law, and the amplitude and the velocity of the sway of the elevator rope.

  • Patent number: 9218646
Abstract: A method plans paths of a set of mobile sensors with changeable positions and orientations in an environment. Each sensor includes a processor, an imaging system and a communication system. A desired resolution of coverage of the environment is defined, and an achieved resolution of the coverage is initialized. For each time instant and each sensor, an image of the environment is acquired using the imaging system. The achieved resolution is updated according to the image. The sensor is moved to a next position and orientation based on the achieved resolution and the desired resolution. Then, local information of the sensor is distributed to other sensors using the communication system to optimize a coverage of the environment.
