  • Publication number: 20110298613
Abstract: An emergency detection and notification system containing a short wireless transceiver collects sensor information from onboard sensors and or remote sensors and detects conditions that require attention. Upon detection of an exception, the emergency detection and notification system issues an audible request, and awaits a confirmation from the user. If a confirmation is not received, the emergency detection and notification system instructs a remote terminal or a VOIP service to dial a phone number, to issue messages, and to issue vocal signals corresponding to sensor information.

  • Publication number: 20110293095
Abstract: A method and apparatus for intelligent authentication based on proximity and using a short wireless device. The method checks if the user captured a PIN code recently and if no signal drop was detected since the last PIN capture. It obtains user data from a unitary short wireless device and authenticates it. If the user PIN was not captured recently, or if a signal drop was recently detected, the user is asked to enter a PIN code.

  • Patent number: 7973657
Abstract: A portable proximity alarm apparatus comprising a Bluetooth system and an alarm monitors the presence of a portable electronic device equipped with a compatible transceiver within range and alarms when that device leaves its range. On detecting disconnection, the proximity alarm automatically tries to reconnect. A portable proximity alarm apparatus with an optional voice mode allows to additionally use the unit as a headset when an earpiece is folded. A portable proximity alarm apparatus with relay functionality allows using a Bluetooth headset and proximity alarm functions unobtrusively on most mobile phones.

  • Publication number: 20090207014
Abstract: A portable proximity alarm apparatus comprising a Bluetooth system and an alarm monitors the presence of a portable electronic device equipped with a compatible transceiver within range and alarms when that device leaves its range. On detecting disconnection, the proximity alarm automatically tries to reconnect. A portable proximity alarm apparatus with an optional voice mode allows for listening to a monitored device and/or to send voice to a monitored device. A proximity alarm device particularly suitable for monitoring persons and animals comprises a base device having a Bluetooth transceiver that can pair with a monitored device having a Bluetooth transceiver. The base device has a lower frequency receiver and the monitored device has a lower frequency transmitter, optionally the base has a lower frequency transmitter and the monitored device has a lower frequency receiver. The lower frequency is less than 1 GHz and preferably 433 MHz.

  • Publication number: 20050110778
Abstract: Wireless input device apparatus allows a user to input data into cellular phones, personal digital assistant, TVs and computers . . . The user holds a wireless stylus and performs movements corresponding to graffiti. In the preferred embodiment, graffiti refers to PalmPilot graffiti. The wireless stylus identifies the user symbols and wirelessly sends them to a terminal device. In the preferred embodiment, the wireless stylus uses a BlueTooth transmitter for connecting and sending data to terminal devices, thus, the wireless stylus can be used for inputting data into any BlueTooth compliant system. In another embodiment, the wireless stylus sends the raw accelerometer data to a terminal device, which identifies the user symbols.

  • Patent number: 6756913
Abstract: A system and method for dispatcher free vehicle allocation. A client requesting taxi service calls a taxi dispatch center using a cellular phone equipped with a location identification device. The location identification device provides the current location information to the dispatch center. The taxi dispatch center keeps track of available taxis and their locations and stores them in a database. After determining the client location data, a processor searches the available taxis database for a taxi whose location matches the client's location. The client location data is converted to an address and sent to the assigned taxi. The address is displayed on a mobile data terminal in the taxi.

  • Patent number: 6407698
Abstract: A signal/sensor automatically sends a wireless signal upon sensing that a vehicle has been parked. There is also provided a locator for determining a current location and storing the current location upon receiving the wireless signal. The current location may be determined by accessing a GPS service through a GPS receiver. The current location may further be refined by accessing a DGPS service through a DGPS receiver or a wireless communication device. The locator also comprises a compass and a relative direction and bearing indicator. Upon receiving a user request, the locator determines a new current location and determines a current heading with the compass. Next, a relative direction and bearing to the parked vehicle may be determined by a processor on board the locator or by accessing a remote server through the wireless communication device. Last, the relative bearing and direction to the parked vehicle is conveyed to the user through the indicator.

  • Patent number: 6405125
Abstract: Parking lots are divided into sections, and each section is equipped with a transmitter. Each transmitter broadcasts information about the location of the section, such as section identifier, level, parking lot address, parking lot GPS coordinates. Vehicles are equipped with small short-range transmitters. A transmitter senses the interior light turning on as the vehicle door opens, and transmits a short-range signal. Vehicle owners are provided with locator devices. When a vehicle is parked, the locator device receives a signal from the vehicle sensor. The locator then listens to the nearest parking lot transmitter and stores the message it receives. If the locator does not find any parking lot transmitter, the locator may determine the current GPS location and store it in memory. Upon receiving a user request for finding a parked vehicle, the locator looks at the last message stored in memory and displays the location message to the user. This message helps the user return to the parked vehicle.
