Publication number: 20230394644Abstract: A personal protective equipment (PPE) interrogation device that uses auditory or visual data to ascertain a readiness state of the article of PPE. The auditory or visual data come from an inspection of the article of personal protective equipment in advance of determining whether the article ready for use.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2021Publication date: December 7, 2023Inventors: Marie D. Manner, Lydia R. Carlson, Joseph P. Kronzer, Jonathan D. Gandrud, Longin J. Kloc, Shane A. Hainey, Matthew J. Blackford, Caroline M. Ylitalo, Muhammad J. Afridi, Michael A. McCoy

Publication number: 20230360416Abstract: A product authentication system includes one or more image capture devices that provide video data representative of an enhanced safety environment. The product authentication system can determine the continuous presence of a designated product during a time period, for example, during performance of a task in an enhanced safety environment. The video data can be spatiotemporally sliced according to multiple orientations with respect to the time axis and the two spatial axes. A plurality of data streams are created In where the slices of each respective data stream have the same orientation. The data streams are processed according to one or more machine learning models, such as convolutional neural networks trained to determine whether the designated product is continuously present in the video data. An indicator of the continuous presence of the designated product can be provided to a downstream system and used to indicate whether functions of the downstream system are to be performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2020Publication date: November 9, 2023Inventors: Muhammad J. Afridi, Mojtaba Kadkhodaie Elyaderani, Matthew T. Scholz

Patent number: 11631186Abstract: Systems and methods for image recognition are provided. A style-transfer neural network is trained for each real image to obtain a trained style-transfer neural network. The texture or style features of the real images are transferred, via the trained style-transfer neural network, to a target image to generate styled images which are used for training an image-recognition machine learning model (e.g., a neural network). In some cases, the real images are clustered and representative style images are selected from the clusters.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2018Date of Patent: April 18, 2023Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Muhammad J. Afridi, Elisa J. Collins, Jonathan D. Gandrud, James W. Howard, Arash Sangari, James B. Snyder

Patent number: 11244439Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure related to a computer system and method for analyzing whether a package has been opened. The system includes a memory and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory and can be configured to receive an image corresponding to a wrapped package. The one or more processors can also be configured to generate a set of feature values based on a visual representation of the wrapped package in the image. The one or more processors can also be configured to apply the set of feature values to at least one model that is trained based at least in part on a set of images that include the wrapped package having the status, to determine the status of the wrapped package.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2019Date of Patent: February 8, 2022Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: G. Marco Bommarito, Jonathan D. Gandrud, Robert W. Shannon, Gautam Singh, Shannon D. Scott, Muhammad J. Afridi, Nicholas A. Asendorf, Claire R. Donoghue

Publication number: 20210259808Abstract: An automated method for generating a final setup for orthodontic treatment. The method includes receiving a digital 3D model of teeth in an initial state. The method computes a scoring function based upon metrics related to the initial state to generate a corresponding score, perturbs the state of the teeth through translations and rotations of a tooth or set of teeth to generate a perturbed state of the teeth, and updates the state of the teeth based upon the score and the perturbed state of the teeth to generate one or more final setups representing a final state of the teeth after the orthodontic treatment.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2019Publication date: August 26, 2021Inventors: Nitsan Ben-Gal Nguyen, Benjamin D. Zimmer, Guruprasad Somasundaram, Alexandra R. Cunliffe, Brian J. Stankiewicz, Elisa J. Collins, David T. Maiden Mueller, Steven C. Demlow, Cody J. Olson, Muhammad J. Afridi, Nancy Amato, Shawna L.
