Abstract: A computer-implemented method of backing up an application to an object storage system includes receiving a policy with a retention attribute for the application being backed up, and receiving a file including data from the application being backed up at a locally-mounted-file-system representation. A manifest including file segment metadata based on the file, at least one attribute associated with the locally-mounted-file-system representation, and at least one version is generated. A file segment including data corresponding to at least one version in the manifest, and including at least some of the data in a bucket comprising an object lock in the object storage system is generated and stored. The manifest is stored as an object in the object storage system.

Abstract: A reclaim system frees previously allocated, but currently unused, storage space in a thin or virtual provisioning environment. The reclaim system may be used in connection with a maintenance operation performed upon determining that significant allocated space of a thin device is no longer being used or may be performed periodically to analyze a thin device and free appropriate space back to a thin device storage pool. In an embodiment, the reclaim system may run online while user applications are accessing a target storage volume.

Abstract: Migrating an active VM from a first data center to a second data center having a passive counterpart of the active VM includes freezing the active VM at the first data center, creating an active VM at the second data center that corresponds to the passive counterpart, and restarting the active VM at the second data center. Migrating an active VM from a first data center to a second data center may also include waiting for the passive counterpart to be synchronized with the active VM at the first data center prior to converting the passive counterpart. Creating the active VM at the second data center may include providing a snapshot of a volume containing the passive VM.

Abstract: A method and system for reflecting differences between two files. The method includes generating a base signature file having a plurality of base bit patterns, each base bit pattern being generated as a function of a portion of data in a first file. A second file containing a plurality of revised bit patterns is generated from a second file. Each revised bit pattern is compared to and matches at least one of the base bit patterns. A delta file reflecting the differences between a first file and the second file based on the base signature file, the delta signature file, and the second file is created.
