  • Patent number: 4889091
Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine includes a fuel intake port located in the periphery of the rotor housing near the air inlet end of the major axis of the two-lobed profile defined thereby. A rotary valve controls communication between the fuel intake port and a source of gaseous fuel such as natural gas. The valve includes a rotary valve member so that the communication is open between the source and the fuel intake port when rotor pockets are facing the intake port.

  • Patent number: 4386890
Abstract: A delivery valve assembly, especially for a rotary mechanism, such as a compressor, disposed within a valve chamber of a peripheral wall of a housing, which includes a stop disposed within the chamber, a valve seat formed in an end-wall disposed across an outer end of the chamber, and a movable valve element having an open and closed position. The valve element is generally rectangularly shaped in cross-section and comprises a resilient plannar inner portion disposed against the valve seat when it is closed and against the stop when opened. Springs, in the form of a pair of strips are fixedly attached at one end to the peripheral wall and extend across the outer end of the chamber, are attached at their other ends to the inner portion via a pair of side portions. These side portions are resilient and are in substantially opposed relationship.

  • Patent number: 4144003
Abstract: The bar seal for use in a rotary mechanism and which is disposed for sliding movement in a groove and to sealingly engage a surface, has an elongated base structure of high wear resistance characteristic and a body portion of a material having a low coefficient of friction connected to the base structure to form a unitary assembly. The body portion is dimensioned to extend a substantial part of the length of the base structure and of a width to form opposite planar surfaces for contacting the walls of the groove.

  • Patent number: 4043714
Abstract: The improved seal grid assembly is for a rotary compressor or expansion engine of the type having a rotor supported for planetation in a multi-lobe housing cavity and comprises, in combination with a non-rotating seal at the juncture of the housing lobes, a sealing means including a sealing surface movable between a retracted position where it is out of engagement with the peripheral wall and an extended position where it is in engagement with the peripheral wall of the housing cavity. A vent passage means is also provided in the rotor to communicate a space defined between the sealing means and rotor with the working chambers to conduct gaseous fluid which pressurizes said space so as to provide movement of the sealing surface of the associated seal means to the retracted position just prior to engagement with the non-rotating seal and to the extended position after such engagement with the non-rotating seals at each of the housing lobe junctures.

  • Patent number: 4028021
Abstract: A rotary trochoidal compressor comprising a rotor mounted for planetary motion within a housing and in which the peripheral surface of the compressor rotor is substantially a hypotrochoid and the peripheral inner surface of the housing is the outer envelope of the rotor and in which a compressible layer is provided on the inner surface of the rotor housing for sealing against the rotor peripheral surface.

  • Patent number: 4018548
Abstract: A rotary trochoidal compressor comprising a rotor mounted for planetary motion within a housing and in which the periphery of the rotor is substantially a hypotrochoid and the peripheral inner surface of the housing is the outer envelope of the rotor and in which a radially movable or elastic seal means is provided in the housing at the hypotrochoid generating points and the intake and outlet ports are so disposed in the housing on opposite sides of each hypotrochoid generating point such that each working chamber closes to an intake port before it opens to an outlet port, the working chamber being formed between the seal means at the rotor nose portions or between seal means at a rotor nose portion and at a hypotrochoid generating point.

  • Patent number: 3973617
Abstract: Molding apparatus and method for producing die castings having high, closely spaced projections extending therefrom formed by mold portions which are re-entrant or interleaved between the projections of the casting. Such re-entrant mold portions do not cool rapidly between casting shots and their tips are liable to stick to the casting, making it difficult or impossible to release. The invention provides a die mold having such re-entrant portions and a method of rapidly cooling such portions between casting shots in order to provide acceptable production rates.
