  • Patent number: 11283489
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may implement a dynamic threshold for antenna switching. The dynamic threshold may improve the percentage of time that a UE operates using an “optimal” antenna (e.g., an antenna with the highest reference signal received power (RSRP)) as compared to a static threshold. For example, a UE may communicate with another device using a first antenna. The UE may track a current communication measurement for the first antenna (e.g., an RSRP value) and may perform an antenna switching test based on the measurement. For the test, the UE may update the dynamic threshold for antenna switching based on a machine learning agent, where the agent may include a neural network that determines the updated dynamic threshold value. The UE may perform a comparison with the dynamic threshold to determine whether to switch operating antennas.

  • Patent number: 9841802
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for managing wake locks in a wireless communication device. The described methods, systems and devices may enable a wireless communication device to monitor activity of an application for which a wake lock is held. The described approach may manage the wake lock based at least in part on the activity or inactivity of the application. For example, when the application is inactive or has activity below a particular threshold for a certain amount of time, the described approach may determine to release the wake lock.

  • Patent number: 8649279
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adaptively setting a Timer_Status_Prohibit (TSP) parameter, the method comprising receiving a category information from a first terminal; determining a threshold value based on the category information and transmitting the threshold value to the first terminal; starting a TSP timer and transmitting at least one data packet to the first terminal once the TSP timer has started; determining when the TSP timer exceeds the threshold value to discontinue transmitting the at least one data packet to the first terminal; receiving a status report from the first terminal; and using the status report, determining whether there is any missing or erroneously received data packet and retransmitting any missing or erroneously received data packet from the at least one data packet to the first terminal.

  • Patent number: 8538425
Abstract: An apparatus and method comprising determining if the timing of a registration system information (RSI) or a paging occasion occurs first; if the paging occasion occurs first, checking for a page and answering the page on the target cell after collecting system information (SI) if the page exists; or if the timing of the RSI occurs first: reading RSI and obtaining a registration area indicator of the target cell; determining if the registration area indicators of a source cell and of the target cell are the same; if not, determining whether checking the page in the source cell would overlap with receiving SI from the target cell; if overlap, or if same, collect SI and monitor a paging channel in the target cell; or if no overlap, checking for the page in the source cell, and if no page, collect SI and monitor the paging channel in the target cell.

  • Patent number: 8509763
Abstract: A method and apparatus evaluating base station efficiency in a network. The method may comprises: obtaining, from a plurality of base stations, cell performance measurements, wherein the cell performance measurements include a transmitted carrier power value and a dedicated channel (DCH) power value, generating a plurality of cell efficiency coefficients for each of the plurality of base stations by processing the obtained cell performance measurements, determining if at least one of the plurality of base stations is an inefficient base station from at least one of the plurality of cell efficiency coefficients, and transmitting at least one network modification suggestion, wherein the at least one network modification suggestion is based on the at least one of the plurality of cell efficiency coefficients used in determining the at least one inefficient base station.

  • Patent number: 8447291
Abstract: In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) determines that a client application has entered a period of transmission inactivity whereby the UE will not be required to transmit data on behalf of the client application. The UE selectively transmits a transmission inactivity notification to an access network (AN) to notify the AN of the transmission inactivity period. The AN receives the transmission inactivity notification and determines to transition the UE from a first state to a second state based at least in part on the received transmission inactivity notification, the second state associated with lower-power consumption of the UE than the first state. The AN sends instructions to the UE to facilitate the transition of the UE from the first state to the second state. In another embodiment, the AN can send instructions to the UE to prohibit the UE from sending transmission inactivity notifications.

  • Publication number: 20090040988
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for extending the protocol synchronization period between a PPP client and a PPP server, wherein the PPP server is located on a wireless communication device. In one aspect, the PPP server generates and sends an IPCP Configure-Nak message to the PPP client whenever the PPP client sends an IPCP Configure-Request message, wherein an arbitrary non-zero value is deliberately sent as the primary DNS address, the secondary DNS address, the primary WINS address, or the secondary WINS address is sent in the IPCP Configure-Nak message. The IP address is deliberately omitted from the IPCP Configure-Nak message.
