  • Publication number: 20040081403
Abstract: An integrated type optical coupling device capable of easily accurately performing an optical arrangement between a narrow-pitch multi-channel optical waveguide and an optical fiber array and a master used in fabricating the same are provided. By forming a fixing projection between the optical fibers, the dynamic stability of the optical fiber array is increased and the optical arrangement between the optical waveguide and the optical fiber is easily accurately performed by hand. Accordingly, the cost required for the alignment is reduced and the alignment error due to the rolling of the optical fiber is not generated. In addition, the multi-step metal master is fabricated by using a photoresist film for X-ray exposure, and the narrow-pitch multi-channel optical coupling device is fabricated in a hot embossing method using the same, thereby the high-integrated device can be fabricated at a low price.

  • Publication number: 20040037512
Abstract: The present invention relates to an electro-optical circuit board (EOCB) in which an optical waveguide for transmitting an optical signal, and a driving unit/receiving unit and an optical source/optical detector for converting an electrical signal into the optical signal, and vice versa are integrated. The EOCB has a structure from which a lens is excluded for the purpose of an economical and efficient optical coupling between the optical waveguide and the optical source/optical detector. The optical source/optical detector are buried within a trench of a metal optical bench. The optical waveguide is then attached on the surface of the optical source/optical detector by means of an epoxy. It is thus possible to minimize an alignment error between the optical source/optical detector and the optical waveguide.

  • Publication number: 20040005119
Abstract: The present invention relates to a parallel optical interconnection module for transmitting an optical signal over an optical fiber and receiving an optical signal from the optical fiber. According to the present invention, a reflection surface is formed at the end of the optical waveguide forming a core so that the path of light can be exactly changed and is focused. A light source/photodetector is buried within a trench using the silicon optical bench and an optical waveguide is manually aligned on the surface of the silicon optical bench, so that alignment error between the light source/photodetector and the optical waveguide can be minimized. A ferrule into which the optical waveguide is inserted is fixed to an adaptor so that alignment error between the optical waveguide and the light source/photodetector is minimized. Therefore, the present invention can minimize the coupling loss in the process during which the optical signal is transmitted to increase the optical output.

  • Publication number: 20030052749
Abstract: There are provided a resonator for use in a filter, which interprets and reduces intermodulation distortion by analyzing characteristics of current density occurring at resonance and linear and nonlinear characteristics of the filter, a method for manufacturing filters by using the resonator and a filter manufactured by the method. The resonator has a ratio of an inside diameter to an outside diameter belonging to a range which is larger than about 1:3 and smaller than or equal to about 1:3.75 and its length (H) is about &lgr;/4, wherein &lgr; is a wavelength of a plane wave provided to the resonator. By employing the method, it is possible to effectively design the filters through the use of a circuitry and structural approach with breaking from a conventional approach depending on local and minute processing steps when manufacturing the filters.

  • Patent number: 6213817
Abstract: A compliant press-fit pin for electrically coupling a first board to a second board via a plated through hole formed in the second board, includes: an upper part for electrically fixing the first board; a lower part for electrically coupling the first board to a third board via the plated through hole formed in the second board; and a press-fit part located between said upper part and said lower part and containing a fixed beam and a compliant cantilever beam, for electrically coupling the first board fixed to said press-fit part to the second board, wherein the fixed beam and the compliant cantilever beam provide a retention force against a wall of the plated through hole, thereby electrically press-fitting the compliant press-fit pin into the plated through hole, when said press-fit part is inserted into the plated through hole.

  • Patent number: 6129865
Abstract: A method of ferrules used in an optical connector for connection and short-circuit of making multichannel optical signals. Heretofore, many fiber receiving holes have been arranged along a line at regular intervals with tolerance amounting to less than 1 micron. 10 and connect two ferrules, a precisely processed cylindrical metal guide pin under 1 micron, precise pitches formed in ferrules and a metal pin guide hole are used, Consequently, it has been necessary to maintain a high degree of precision. The present invention maintains a high degree of precision by reverse direction connection dependent merely on a predetermined height a reference plane. The reference plane is formed by relatively easy plane processing as the method of maintaining precise height and directivity of flow is added to the inside of a mold.

  • Patent number: 5485537
Abstract: A single core optical fiber connector is disclosed in which an optical signal transmitting line between optical fibers is maintained or short-circuited with a low power loss by utilizing a sectional contact of a single core optical fiber. An elastic deformation energy of a polymer material is utilized so as to achieve the sectional contact for minimizing the loss, and precisely machined alignment devices are utilized so as to reduce the misalignment between the optical fibers, thereby improving the assemblability and the economy. The optical fiber sections which are lightly ground on a grinding paper are contacted by using a precisely machined alignment device and by utilizing the elastic deformation energy of the elastic ferrule. This contact is maintained by a coupling between a specially designed plug and an adaptor, thereby forming a structure of an optical fiber connector and an alignment device.
