  • Patent number: 11813130
Abstract: A flosser is described that has only moving four parts, floss, a single piece body, a piece source spool and a single piece take-up spool. The source spool and take-up spool may snap into a source cavity and a take-up cavity, respectively. The source and take-up spools may be rotatably secured in the respective cavities using detent rings and snap rings. A cantilever flexure assembly is integrated into the single piece body and includes a push button assembly and a ratchet flexure. The push button assembly controls rotation of the source spool for dispensing and tensioning floss. The ratchet flexure controls rotation of the take-up spool for collecting and tensioning floss.

  • Patent number: 10238475
Abstract: A flosser is described that includes a take-up spool for winding a plurality of layers of used floss, a shell for forming a chamber around the take-up spool and enclosing the plurality of layers of used floss windings within the chamber, and helical grooves disposed in an inner surface of the shell for preventing jamming of the take-up spool by accumulated floss windings. The flosser further includes a retie assembly having a groove disposed in a fin for trapping floss against a take-up aperture upon alignment of the groove and aperture, and for urging floss into take-up aperture and wrapping the floss around the take-up spool as the fin rotates further.

  • Patent number: 9517118
Abstract: An orthodontic flosser comprising an elongated handle and a head coupled to the handle is disclosed. A projection extend for suspending floss is sized for insertion of floss between a wire affixed to a tooth and the tooth. A source spool of fresh floss is configured to feed fresh floss incrementally into suspension from the projection while a take-up bobbin is configured for taking up used floss and applying tension to the suspended floss. A button may be used for releasing the source spool to rotate, and for holding the source spool against rotation. The source spool and take-up bobbin may be disposed in separated chambers to reduce cross contamination. A retie flange in the take-up bobbin and a retie slot in a take-up chamber are configured for retiying broken floss around a spindle of the take-up bobbin.

  • Publication number: 20160310246
Abstract: A flosser for cleaning contacts between two teeth attached to a wire brace includes a handle having a head, a first floss support coupled to the head and extending away therefrom, and a second floss support extending away from the head which includes an aperture disposed approximate a distal end thereof for supporting floss suspended between the first floss support and the second floss support. The second floss support is shaped for insertion between the wire brace and the two teeth while the suspended floss cleans the contact between the two teeth. A source spool is disposed on the handle for dispensing fresh floss, as well as a take-up spool for receiving used floss. The take-up spool and the source spool are configured to apply tension to floss suspended between the first and second supports.

  • Patent number: 8967164
Abstract: An orthodontic flosser comprising an elongated handle and an articulating head coupled to the handle at a pivot is disclosed. A mechanism holds the articulating head at a selected angle with respect to an axis of the handle. A first and second projection extend from the head for suspending floss, the first projection is sized to insert floss between a wire affixed to a tooth and the tooth. A supply of fresh floss and a take-up reel are configured to feed fresh floss incrementally into suspension between the first and second projections while taking-up used floss and applying a tension to the suspended floss.
