  • Publication number: 20230205154
Abstract: An aerosol delivery device is provided that includes a power source, a heating element, a switch coupled to and between the power source and the heating element, and processing circuitry coupled to the switch. The processing circuitry outputs a PWM signal during a heating time period to cause the switch to switchably connect and disconnect the output voltage to the heating element to power the heating element. The processing circuitry outputs a pulse of known current to the heating element, and measure voltage across the heating element, between adjacent pulses of the PWM signal. And the processing circuitry calculates the resistance of the heating element based on the known current and the voltage, calculates the temperature of the heating element based on the resistance, and adjusts a duty cycle of the PWM signal when the temperature deviates from a predetermined target.

  • Publication number: 20090018964
Abstract: An electronic device performs a transaction by providing purchaser information for communication to a certification facility, receiving identification information associated with the purchaser from the certification facility, and completing the transaction responsive to authentication of the user of the electronic device as being the purchaser based on the received identification information.

  • Publication number: 20060135206
Abstract: A mobile terminal may include a wireless modem, a wireless network interface, and an application (such as a browser application). A method of operating the mobile terminal may include providing a first data path between a data network and the application of the mobile terminal through the wireless modem. In addition, a second data path may be provided between the data network and second mobile terminal through the wireless modem and the wireless network interface of the first mobile terminal. Related devices are also discussed.

  • Publication number: 20050048971
Abstract: Method and system for registration of licensed modules in mobile devices. The present invention provides for a registration system to determine active use of licensed modules installed in mobile devices such as wireless cellular terminals and PDA's. The registration system can be made to operate in a manner that is substantially transparent to the user of the mobile device. In example embodiments, a module handler within the processor platform of the mobile device collects module parameters as necessary and causes registration messages to be assembled and sent. In some embodiments, encryption is provided. User interaction with the registration process can also optionally be accommodated. Additionally, the module handler can direct that use of the software module or package is restricted until an acknowledgement is returned from the module activation system, confirming the registration.

  • Publication number: 20050014531
Abstract: A system and method of operating a mobile phone accessory communicable with a mobile phone. The present invention dynamically loads software into a mobile phone from a mobile phone accessory to enable better management of the accessory's resources and capabilities. After a communication link is established between the mobile phone and mobile phone accessory, both devices exchange information to determine the appropriate software to transfer. A verification process then ensures that the mobile phone and mobile phone accessory are authorized to receive and transfer software, respectively. Subsequently, software is transferred from the mobile phone accessory to be stored in the mobile phone. The mobile phone is capable of executing the downloaded software. Specifically, the mobile phone contains the necessary API(s) and processor hardware needed to run a variety of software.

  • Publication number: 20020082010
Abstract: Power-up systems and methods are provided for a wireless terminal which uses multiple stages of decreasing search complexity in scanning radio channels for service when no service is available. Complexity may be reduced by scanning radio channels for service according to a variable sequence whose composition reflects a higher occurrence of higher priority radio frequency bands than lower priority radio frequency bands, so that higher priority radio frequency bands will be scanned more often than lower priority radio frequency bands. In addition, by turning wireless terminal off for increasing time intervals after each scan, the power-up scan techniques may provide reduced power consumption. By reducing the search complexity during successive stages of scanning, the power-up scan techniques may ensure that the wireless terminal responds quickly and finds a service provider when service does become available.

  • Patent number: 6324400
Abstract: A method and intelligent roaming mobile station for emulating a pre-intelligent roaming scanning routine used by a pre-intelligent roaming mobile station. The method includes the steps of selecting a search scheme from a plurality of search scheme, and restricting an intelligent roaming scanning routine to scan only the service bands within an 800 MHZ spectrum. In response to the selected search scheme, the intelligent roaming mobile station then prioritizes at least one service band operating in the 800 MHZ spectrum into a band scan order. Thereafter, the intelligent roaming mobile station scans for a channel according to the prioritized band scan order, where the channel connects a service provider to the intelligent roaming mobile station according to the selected search scheme.
