  • Patent number: 5595679
Abstract: Improved corrosion inhibitors for use with road deicing compositions are provided which lessen the typical corrosive properties on metal and/or concrete resulting from application of road deicers. The inhibitors of the invention include respective quantities of a citrate component such as citric acid, as well as a second silicate or metasilicate component, e.g., sodium metasilicate. The inhibitor compositions preferably include from about 0.5%-50% by weight of the citrate component and from about 50%-99.5% by weight of the second component. The inhibitors are generally used at a level of at least about 1.5% by weight to create inhibited road deicing mixtures.

  • Patent number: 5474704
Abstract: Improved compositions for the treatment and regeneration of ion exchange resin beds typically used in water softening systems are provided, which possess enhanced iron sequestering capabilities. The compositions include citric acid and a salt of citric acid, together with an iron sequestration-enhancing amount of an agent including a quantity of a source of gluconic acid or salt of gluconic acid. Preferred agents include gluconic acid, the alkali metal gluconates, glucono lactone and mixtures thereof. The compositions are advantageously formulated as dry products, which can be mixed with a preponderant amount of sodium chloride to yield regenerating media.

  • Patent number: 5396958
Abstract: Improved mud additive compositions are provided which are especially formulated to control hole enlargement due to salt bed erosion during drilling, and to assist in solubilization of deposited salt during well operations. The compositions include a first ingredient such as sodium or potassium ferrocyanide and mixtures thereof, and a second ingredient such as the trisodium salt of nitrilotriacetic acid and alkali metal citrates. The first ingredient is generally present at a level of from about 50-95% by weight in the particulate, dilutable form of the invention, whereas the second ingredient is present at a level of from about 5-50% by weight. The compositions hereof may be added to drilling mud during drilling operations or to fresh water for removing salt depositions.

  • Patent number: 5089258
Abstract: Improved odor-reducing compositions, and corresponding methods, are disclosed wherein a substrate or area exhibiting undesirable odors is treated with an odor-reducing composition including respective quantities of citric acid and a salt of citric acid. Preferably, the odor-reducing composition in particulate form includes from about 0.1-20% by weight citric acid, at least about 50% by weight of a salt of citric acid (e.g. sodium citrate) and an anti-caking agent. The compositions of the invention may be used to good effect in the treatment of substrates such as human skin, cloth or other absorbents; or in deodorizing areas exhibiting offensive odors.

  • Patent number: 4839086
Abstract: The invention is concerned with the improved compositions for the treatment and regeneration of ion exchange resin beds typically used in water softening systems for domestic or industrial applications. The compositions of the invention include those designed for addition to sodium chloride to yield a final regenerating medium for exchange resins, along with finished compositions including a preponderant proportion of sodium chloride. In pertinent part, the compositions of the invention include respective quantitites of citric acid and a salt of citric acid such as sodium or potassium citrate. In particularly preferred form, the compositions include a minor amount of an anti-caking agent selected from the group consisting of alkyl substituted napthalene sulfonates. The compositions in accordance with the invention are characterized by relatively low pH levels and the ability to minimize the oxidation of ferrous iron to the insoluble ferric form.

  • Patent number: 4713184
Abstract: A combination corrosion/scale inhibitor composition for use in oil or gas wells is provided which is in the form of a substantially homogeneous dispersion so as to facilitate use and well coverage of the composition, and to minimize well downtime. The overall composition preferably includes a preblend having an imidazoline-based corrosion inhibitor and an organophosphonic scale inhibitor, together with an organic solvent and an alkylphenol ethoxylate surfactant; the preblend is then field-mixed with water or crude oil to yield a final treating composition. In practice the final composition may be introduced into the well in bulk or over time so as to achieve full coverage of down-hole equipment with both the corrosion and scale inhibitor.
