  • Patent number: 4490160
Abstract: The invention provides an improvement in the method for the enrichment of nitrogen in air by the method of selective adsorption of oxygen in air on a carbonaceous adsorbent material. The improvement comprises the use of an adsorbent material prepared in a specific manner in which a pulverized coal char is blended with a limited amount of a sulfite pulp waste liquor and the blend is shaped into granules or pellets followed by carbonization at 300.degree. to 450.degree. C. for 1 to 2 hours. An enriched nitrogen gas containing 1% by volume or less of oxygen can readily be obtained by passing air through a column filled with the adsorbent material.

  • Patent number: 4420415
Abstract: Carbon molecular sieves having excellent oxygen adsorption properties may be obtained from a vinylidene chloride copolymer. The copolymer is carbonized for the removal of its chlorine components and the resulting char is pulverized. Specific amounts of a carbonaceous sintering agent such as coal tar pitch and an organic binder such as microcrystalline cellulose are then added to the pulverized product and the mixture is shaped into pellets. By thermally treating the pellets under specific conditions in a specific manner, carbon molecular sieves having pore diameters suitable for the adsorption of oxygen may be obtained. The molecular sieves are suitable for concentrating nitrogen in air.

  • Patent number: 4067894
Abstract: Granular metal-capturing agents suitable for treating waste effluents conning heavy metals are obtained by mixing 100 parts by weight of waste clay which has been subjected to a preliminary dry distillation treatment with 25-40 parts by weight of an organic carbonaceous binder agent such as coking coal, granulating 100 parts by weight of this mixture together with 8-15 parts by weight of an organic pelletizing agent such as sulfite pulp waste liquor, and thereafter subjecting the resulting granules to a dry distillation treatment conducted at 450.degree.-900.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4046709
Abstract: Granular molecular sieve may be obtained, without necessitating any activng treatment, by subjecting a vinylidene chloride copolymer to a thermal carbonization treatment for removal of hydrochloric acid, pulverizing the resultant product to a grain size smaller than 100 mesh size, adding 15 to 35 parts by weight of a carbonaceous sintering agent and 8 to 15 parts by weight of an organic pelletizer capable of gas generation by heating to 100 parts by weight of the pulverized product, pelletizing the resultant mixture and carbonizing the resultant pellets at a temperature of 400 to 900.degree. C for a period of 2 to 6 hours. The pore diameter of this molecular sieve can be suitably controlled within a range of from 5 to 10 A by appropriately selecting the sintering agent and pelletizer employed and the conditions of the thermal treatment.
