    Abstract: A signal transmission method and apparatus provides a digital transmission path and an analog transmission path between a signal output apparatus and a signal input apparatus. An audio/video signal is transmitted from the signal output apparatus to the signal input apparatus over the digital transmission path. When a user requests an on screen display (OSD) from the signal output apparatus, a controlling unit of the signal output apparatus judges a volume of the data to be displayed via the OSD. If the volume exceeds a preset limit, the OSD is transmitted to the signal input apparatus over the analog transmission path. If the volume does not exceed the preset limit, the OSD is transmitted to the signal input apparatus over the digital transmission path. The controlling unit of the signal output apparatus informs a controlling unit of the signal input apparatus of the intended path of the OSD, so that the signal input apparatus can process the OSD in the appropriate manner.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method of transferring a transmission stream in a digital interface which inserts the program number selected by a user into a predetermined region of the MPEG2-TS if a multi-program is included in a channel, and transmits the MPEG2-TS including the selected program number through the digital interface to record and reproduce the MPEG2-TS. The apparatus includes a transmitting device for transmitting an input stream, a receiving device for recording and reproducing the stream, a TP demultiplexer for demultiplexing a multi-program from the input stream or a reproduced program, a recording section for recording program information selected by the user in a specified region of the demultiplexed stream, and a control section for controlling an operation of the recording section. The multi-program is transmitted to the receiving device through the digital interface, and a program selected by the user from the multi-program is selected by the receiving section.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of menu-based control of an external device connected to a digital audio/video apparatus. According to the present invention, a main menu is displayed including menu items for selecting functions or operations of the external device and a menu item for obtaining a detailed menu of the external device, the main menu image being stored in a memory of the audio/video apparatus. When one of the menu items associated with the functions or operations is selected, command data corresponding to the selected menu item are transmitted to have the external device perform the corresponding operation. When a menu item for obtaining the detailed menu of the external device is chosen, a menu image of the detailed menu is read out from the memory and is then displayed.     Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of menu-based control of external devices connected to a digital audio/video apparatus. According to this invention, in response to user's request of a menu for selection of the external devices that have been connected to the digital audio/video apparatus, a menu image is displayed on the digital audio/video apparatus, each menu item corresponding to each of the connected external device. When one of the external devices is selected from the menu, a menu image including menu items for executing operations of the selected external device is requested and displayed on the digital audio/video apparatus. The operations of the selected external device can be selected and executed from the menu. This invention allows a user to conveniently, centrally examine and execute various operations or functions of external devices such as a DVD player that are connected to a central digital audio/video apparatus without the direct access to the external devices.
