  • Patent number: 9479544
Abstract: A Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) cable modem system is coupled to: i) via a local area internet protocol (IP) network, a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) device operating Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for signaling a VoIP session; and ii) via a DOCSIS network, a cable modem termination system (CMTS) via a network. The cable modem system comprises instructions stored in a memory and executed by a processor. The instructions comprise: i) in response to receiving a frame via the local area IP network, determining if the frame is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) invite message signaling a VoIP session with a remote endpoint; and ii) in response to determining that the frame is a SIP invite message, generating a DOCSIS message to the CMTS to request an addition of reserved bandwidth on the DOCSIS network for the VoIP session.

  • Patent number: 8346947
Abstract: A cable modem integrated session border controller operates as a point of demarcation between a local area network (LAN) and a DOCSIS network and, in response to receiving a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message, which includes Session Description Protocol (SDP), from a VoIP device coupled to the LAN, communicates with a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) to take advantage of DOCSIS Dynamic Quality of Service (DQoS). If required service flow attributes, as determined from the SDP of the SIP message, matches service flow attributes of an existing UGS service flow with a CMTS, a DOCSIS Dynamic Service Change (DSC) request is used to add an additional sub flow to the existing UGS service flow. If attributes fail to match attributes of all existing UGS service flows, a DOCSIS Dynamic Service Change (DSC) request is used to initiate an additional UGS service flow with the required service flow attributes.

  • Publication number: 20030044025
Abstract: A microphone for a full duplex speaker phone comprises a loudspeaker, a uni-directional microphone, a omni-directional microphone, and a background noise suppression circuit. The uni-directional microphone is a directional microphone such that the intensity of an acoustic source detected at the uni-directional microphone is dependent on the angular direction of the acoustic source relative to a reference direction. The omni-directional microphone is a non-directional microphone such that the intensity of the acoustic source detected at the omni-directional microphone is substantially independent of the angular direction of the acoustic source relative to the reference direction. The background noise suppression circuit determines the direction of the acoustic source by calculating a quotient between a signal strength of the acoustic source as detected by the two microphones and provides for suppressing an acoustic source that is not within a threshold angle of the reference angle.

  • Patent number: 6178405
Abstract: A data signal compression technique for real-time voice and data processing where the digitized signal is first compressed to obtain a first compressed signal, and the first compressed signal is then compressed again to obtain a second compressed signal. Within a digital signal processor, digital signals first undergo time scale compression after which the compressed signals undergo audio compression to achieve multiple-compressed signals. Upon reception in a second digital signal processor, the multiple-compressed signals are correspondingly decompressed to achieve a high-quality estimation of the original digital signals.

  • Patent number: 5581579
Abstract: In a digital wireless communication system operating between a first unit and a second unit, the first unit transmits a digitally encoded RF signal at a first frequency in a plurality of a non-contiguous time slots to the second unit. The second unit receives the digitally encoded RF signals. The received RF digitally encoded signal is converted to an intermediate frequency (IF). An A to D converter samples the received IF digitally encoded signals and generates a plurality of discrete binary symbols during one of the plurality of non-contiguous time slots. A phase error signal is generated for each one of the plurality of discrete binary symbols. A frequency error signal is generated for the subsequent symbol in accordance with .DELTA.f(n+1)=.DELTA.f(n)+g.sub.1 (.crclbar.(n)-.crclbar.(n)). The conversion of the RF signal to intermediate frequency is controlled in response to the frequency error signal.

  • Patent number: 5491726
Abstract: A digital wireless communication system operates between a first unit and a second unit. The received digitally encoded signal is sampled to produce a first sampled digital signal. A first bank of match filters with each match filter having a different frequency range is used to pass the first sampled digital signal therethrough. The output of the first bank of match filters having the largest amplitude is selected along with the match filter which produced the largest amplitude output. The digitally encoded signal having this "coarse" frequency range is then passed through a second bank of match filters. Each of the match filters has a fine frequency different from one another. The output of the second bank of match filters is produced and the output having the largest amplitude is selected. In addition, the filter producing the largest amplitude from the second bank of match filters is also selected.

  • Patent number: 5436942
Abstract: An equalization method for digitally encoded signals transmitted in a plurality of non-contiguous time slots has a digitally encoded synchronization signal commencing in each time slot followed by a digitally encoded data signal having a digitally encoded marker signal at a predetermined time period. The synchronization signal of the assigned time slot ("first synchronization signal") and the digitally encoded data signal of the assigned time slot including the marker signal, and the digitally encoded synchronization signal of the immediately succeeding non-assigned time slot ("second synchronization signal") are all stored. The location of the minimum energy point of the stored digitally encoded signals is determined. Equalization is performed starting from the first synchronization signal to the minimum energy point. Then, the equalization commences from the second synchronization signal backwards until the minimum energy point is reached.

  • Patent number: 5400368
Abstract: In a digital wireless communication system, a first unit transmits a digitally encoded signal to a second unit in a plurality of non-contiguous time slots. Within each time slot, the digitally encoded signal has a synchronization signal portion followed by a data signal portion. The second unit has an antenna to receive the synchronization signal portion of the digitally encoded signal. The second unit also has a clock to generate a clock signal at a first rate having a sampling phase. An analog to digital converter receives the clock signal and the synchronization signal and samples the synchronization signal at the first rate to generate a first plurality of symbols. An interpolator receives the first plurality of symbols and interpolates the first plurality of symbols to generate a second plurality of symbols at a second rate. The second rate is a multiple of the first rate.

  • Patent number: 5001725
Abstract: A fully differential sigma-delta signal processor for use in high-speed voiceband or higher-frequency applications. The processor receives the two polarities of a differential input signal and passes them to a differential-amplifier integrator through a switched sampling capacitor arrangement. The capacitors are each alternately and concurrently switched back and forth between the two signal paths for the two polarities of the input signal responsive to a clock signal in such a manner as to sample and integrate the input signal at an effective signal transfer rate of at least twice the clock frequency. An analog-to-digital converter defines a digital feedback-control signal characteristic of the integrator output signal. A second switched-capacitor arrangement selectively applies a feedback signal to the integrator inputs, responsive to the digital control signal, at a switching rate comparable to the effective signal transfer rate through the integrator.
