  • Patent number: 8079914
Abstract: Unpleasant vibration and muffled sound are restrained. A constant velocity universal joint includes an outer joint part having a plurality of track grooves formed on its cylindrical inner circumferential surface and extending in an axial direction, an inner joint part having a plurality of track grooves formed on its spherical outer circumferential surface and extending in the axial direction, six torque transmitting balls, each being put in a ball track formed by a pair of the track groove of the outer joint part and the track groove of the inner joint part, and a cage having pockets for retaining the torque transmitting balls. The center of curvatures of the spherical outer circumferential surface and the center of the spherical inner circumferential surface of the cage are offset by the same distance in the opposite directions along the axis about the center of the joint.

  • Publication number: 20090087250
Abstract: The object is to reduce the weight of the outer race of cross groove constant velocity universal joints. The cross groove constant velocity universal joint includes a disc-shaped outer race (10) having ball tracks (14) in the outer race inner circumferential surface (12), an inner race (20) having ball tracks (24) in the inner race outer circumferential surface (22), balls (30) set between the pairs of the ball tracks (14) of the outer race (10) and the ball tracks (24) of the inner race (20), and a cage (40) that retains all the balls (30) within the same plane. Bolt holes (16) are arranged between adjacent ball tracks (14) of the outer race (10), and the outer circumference of the outer race (10) is cut out as denoted at the reference numeral 18 between adjacent bolt holes (16) so that the outer race (10) has a corolla-shaped outer contour.

  • Publication number: 20070135221
Abstract: A cross groove constant velocity universal joint of which weight of the outer ring is reduced. The cross groove constant velocity universal joint includes a disc-shaped outer ring having ball tracks in the inner circumferential surface, an inner ring having ball tracks in the outer circumferential surface, balls set between the pairs of the outer ring ball tracks and the inner ring ball tracks, and a cage that retains all the balls within the same plane. Bolt holes are arranged between adjacent ball tracks of the outer ring, and recesses are formed such as to reduce the outside diameter of the outer ring except for both axial ends, at least between adjacent bolt holes.
