Abstract: A lubricating system has a main oil gallery provided for supplying pressurized oil, a first gallery connected with the main gallery for supplying first lubricating oil to the hydraulic valve-lash adjusters. A relief valve is provided for keeping pressure of the first lubricating oil constant. A second gallery is provided for supplying second lubricating oil to journals of the camshafts, and nozzles are provided for lubricating a camshaft and rocker arm for a valve disposed in an upper position than another valve.

Abstract: A hydraulic valve-lash adjuster has a cylindrical reservoir case provided in a cylindrical head of an engine, and a cylindrical body secured in the reservoir case. A reservoir chamber is formed between a bottom of the reservoir case and the cylindrical body. A plunger is slidably mounted in the cylindrical body, and a high pressure chamber is formed between a bottom of the cylindrical body and a bottom of the plunger. A pivot is slidably mounted in the reservoir case and a helper spring is provided between the plunger and the pivot.

Abstract: A belt tensioner has a shaft having an external thread and rotatably mounted in a body, a torsion spring provided between the body and the shaft so as to urge the shaft in a rotational direction, and a cylindrical rod having an internal thread engaged with the external thread of the shaft. An upper end of the rod being projected from the body so as to be operatively connected to a tension pulley for a belt. The torsion spring and both the threads are arranged to project rod by the rotation of the shaft urged by the torsion spring.

Abstract: A valve lash adjuster for a horizontally opposed engine in which valves are horizontally disposed and the adjuster for each valve is also horizontally disposed. The adjuster has a cylindrical body and a hollow plunger. The tip end of the plunger engages with a rocker arm of a valve lifting device of the engine. The plunger has a ball check valve for trapping oil in a pressure chamber defined behind the plunger and is outwardly biased by a spring for taking up clearance in the valve train. Passages are provided for supplying the lubricating oil into an annular groove provided around the cylindrical body. The passages are located at such positions that the oil remains in the groove. The inside chamber of the plunger is communicated with the annular groove through a hole located to communicate with the annular groove at the oil remaining zone, so that the oil is maintained in the inside chamber of the plunger and the pressure chamber.
