Abstract: In an apparatus for opening and closing a working area of a machine tool (1) which comprises a front door (6) for opening and closing an operation opening (5a) formed in a cover (5) serving as a partition between the working area A and an operator, and a ceiling shutter (8) covering an upper part of the above working area A so as to be opened and closed, there is provided a detection switch for detecting a closed condition of the front door (6), and an interlocking mechanism (9) for blocking a closing operation of the front door (6) while the ceiling shutter is open.

Abstract: An NC lathe comprising a box-shaped bed, a headstock unit and a cutting tool unit each mounted on the bed, a work supplying device provided under the headstock unit, a numerical control unit wherein the bed comprises a first installation surface and two second installation surfaces, the first and second installation surface crossing at right angle to each other, the first installation surface includes a Z-axis and an X-axis crossing at right angle therewith, the headstock unit comprising a headstock reciprocally movable along the Z-axis on the first installation surface, and the cutting tool unit comprising a tool carrier reciprocally movable along the X-axis.
