  • Patent number: 7275307
Abstract: A method for making a magnetic head formed with a pair of magnetic core halves fitted to abut on each other having a nonmagnetic gap therebetween and having a slide contact plane for slide contact with a magnetic recording medium on which an end face of the nonmagnetic gap and the magnetic core halves. In the method, a nonmagnetic portion formed by filling a glass material is provided at an end portion of the slide contact plane other than the end face of the magnetic core halves on the slide contact plane.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 10, 2004
Date of Patent: October 2, 2007
    Assignee: Sony Corporation

  • Patent number: 6801391
Abstract: There is provided a magnetic head formed with a pair of magnetic core halves fitted to abut on each other having a nonmagnetic gap therebetween and having a slide contact plane for slide contact with a magnetic recording medium on which an end face of the nonmagnetic gap and the magnetic core halves. In the magnetic head, a nonmagnetic portion formed by filling a glass material is provided at an end portion of the slide contact plane outer than the end face of the magnetic core halves on the slide contact plane. The inventive magnetic head realizes less volume of magnetic body while solving problems in mechanical strength of the magnetic head or in compatibility to a conventional head. Accordingly, a magnetic head with excellent head performance without decreasing productivity can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5852536
Abstract: Sliding noise characteristics can be considerably improved without degrading electromagnetic conversion characteristics and abrasion resistance characteristics in a recording/reproducing operation. A depth (H) of a contact width regulating groove (21) is set to be smaller than a contact width (W) of a magnetic recording medium sliding surface (a), and is set to a predetermined value of 25 .mu.m or more and 45 .mu.m or less. A depth (H) of the contact regulating groove is set to a predetermined value of 37.+-.12 .mu.m, the contact width (W) on the magnetic recording medium sliding surface (a) is set to a predetermined value of 55.+-.6 .mu.m, and a value (R) of a corner portion of the contact width regulating groove is set to a predetermined value of 16 .mu.m or less.
