  • Publication number: 20060100987
Abstract: The invention relates to a recommender for recommending content to a user. The recommender comprises a recommender processor (111) which performs the steps of determining (201) a user preference profile and determining (205) if a content item interest does not correspond to the user preference profile. If the content item interest does not match the user preference profile, a temporary user preference profile is generated (207) in response to the content item. The recommender processor (111) then tests (209), through a user interface (107) the temporary user preference profile by recommending a plurality of other content items, and determining user preference values for them. If the preference value for the temporary user preference profile is high (211), the user preference profile is updated (213) accordingly. Otherwise, the temporary user preference profile is deleted (215).

  • Publication number: 20060100963
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for recommending content items. A user profile processor (113) determines (201) a user preference profile for a user for different categories of content. When a content item is received (203), a recommender processor (111) determines (205) if a first content item correlates with the user preference profile. If there is such an associative correspondence, the content item is recommended (206) to the user. If not, the recommender processor (111) determines (211) if the received content item comprises at least a first characteristic having an associative correspondence to at least a second characteristic of a second content item having a high user preference. If there is such an associative correspondence, the received content item is recommended to the user. The associative correspondence may be determined to exist if textual descriptions for the two content items comprise similar words.

  • Publication number: 20060101490
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for providing a selection list of content items to a user. The content items may comprise video content, audio content and multimedia content including received or recorded TV or radio programmes. An apparatus comprises a content receiver (103) for receiving content items. The content items may be stored in a content memory (105). The apparatus further comprises a duration processor (111), which determines a content item duration indication for each of the content items. A content item list processor (113) generates an ordered content list comprising content items ordered in response to the content item duration indication. The ordered list is presented to the user as a selection list by a user interface (107). The user may select a content item for presentation by highlighting the content item in the selection list. The content item duration indication may relate to a remaining time of a programme.
