  • Publication number: 20190378444
Abstract: According to one implementation, an image generation system includes a base having a rotor and a motor for spinning the rotor about an axis of rotation, and a display secured to the rotor, wherein a center of mass of the display is situated off of the axis of rotation. Such an image generation system also includes a first counterweight coupled to the rotor and having a first location relative to the rotor, and a second counterweight coupled the to the rotor and having a second location relative to the rotor different than the first location. The first counterweight and the second counterweight are configured to stabilize the display while the display is spun by the motor and the rotor.

  • Patent number: 10444840
Abstract: This disclosure presents systems and methods to synchronize visual effects and haptic feedback for interactive experiences. Visual circuit control signals may dictate control of a presentation device to present images forming virtual content. Haptic circuit control signals may dictate control of a haptic feedback device to provide haptic output. Timing information conveying one or both of latency in the execution of the visual circuit control signals by the presentation device and/or latency in the execution of the haptic circuit control signals by the haptic feedback device may be determined. Based on the timing information, transmission of the visual circuit control signals to the presentation device and/or transmission of the haptic circuit control signals to the haptic feedback device may be effectuated so that the presentation of images and provision of haptic output occur within a threshold time span.

  • Patent number: 10339844
Abstract: According to one implementation, an image display system includes a computing platform having a central processing unit (CPU), a system memory storing a software code, a display screen, and a motor controlled by the CPU and coupled to a rotor for rotating the display screen. The CPU is configured to execute the software code to spin the display screen about an axis at a predetermined spin rate using the motor and the rotor, and to render each of multiple perspectives of an image on the display screen at a frame rate during each revolution of the display screen about the axis. The predetermined spin rate is determined based on the number of perspectives of the image rendered per revolution of the display screen and the frame rate.

  • Patent number: 10255725
Abstract: An augmented reality (AR) system for providing an AR experience to a user of an AR venue includes a hardware processor, a memory, a light detector, a display, and an AR application stored in the memory. The hardware processor can execute the AR application to provide a virtual environment corresponding to the AR venue on the display, and to detect a light event resulting from interaction of an infrared (IR) light produced by an AR accessory utilized by the user with a surface within the AR venue. The hardware processor can further execute the AR application to identify a location of the light event within the AR venue, determine whether the location of the light event is within an activation zone of the AR venue, and render a visual effect corresponding to the light event on the display if the location is within the activation zone.

  • Patent number: 10192472
Abstract: According to one implementation, an image display system includes a computing platform having at least one processor and a system memory storing a software code. In addition, the image display system includes a display screen having a front display face and a side display face, and a base including a motor coupled to a rotor for rotating the display screen. The at least one processor executes the software code to render a two-dimensional (2D) graphic on the front display face of the display screen, and to render a visual effect on the side display face of the display screen. The at least one processor further executes the software code to use the motor and the rotor to spin the display screen to cause appearances of the 2D graphic as a floating image and the visual effect as a volumetric enhancement to the floating image.
