    Abstract: A electrophoresis column having on-column means and a method for concentrating analytes of interest in a sample prior to electrophoresis. The column comprises a section having the concentrating means upstream of a capillary section. A sample is flowed past the concentrating means which immobilizes the analytes of interest thereby concentrating the analytes of interest in the section. Thereafter the analytes are released from the concentrating means for carrying out electrophoresis.

  • Separation of zone formation from electroosmotic impulse in tubular electrophoretic systems

    Abstract: Capillary zone electrophoresis systems are separated into two zones, one primarily for electroosmotic fow generation and the other dominated by electrophoretic effects, by the use of appropriately selected capillary materials for each region. Detection of the solute zones occurs in the electrophoretic region, minimizing or eliminating entirely the entry of the solutes into the electroosmotic region. The benefit acheived is avoidance or minimization of the adsorption of charged solutes by the capillary wall in electroosmotic flow.
