  • Patent number: 9652288
Abstract: A method for adaptively allocating resources to a plurality of jobs. The method comprises selecting a first policy from a plurality of policies for a first job in the plurality of jobs by using a policy selection mechanism, allocating at least one resource to the first job in accordance with the first policy, and in response to completion of the first job, updating the policy selection mechanism to obtain an updated policy selection mechanism by using at least one processor. Updating the policy selection mechanism comprises evaluating the performance of the first policy with respect to the first job by calculating a value of a metric of utility for the first policy based on conditions associated with execution of the first job and updating the policy selection mechanism based on the calculated value and a delay of execution of the first job.

  • Publication number: 20170104640
Abstract: The described implementations relate to processing of electronic data. One implementation is manifest as one or more computer-readable storage devices comprising instructions which, when executed by one or more processing devices, cause the one or more processing devices to perform acts. The acts can include determining service levels provided by multiple network configurations, determining costs associated with the multiple network configurations, and evaluating the multiple network configurations based on both the costs and the service levels. The multiple network configurations can include redundantly-deployed devices. Furthermore, some implementations may determine cost/service level metrics that can be used to compare devices based on expected costs to provide a particular service level.

  • Patent number: 9619297
Abstract: There is provided a method and system for process migration in a data center network. The method includes selecting processes to be migrated from a number of overloaded servers within a data center network based on an overload status of each overloaded server. Additionally, the method includes selecting, for each selected process, one of a number of underloaded servers to which to migrate the selected process based on an underload status of each underloaded server, and based on a parameter of a network component by which the selected process is to be migrated. The method also includes migrating each selected process to the selected underloaded server such that a migration finishes within a specified budget.

  • Patent number: 9613134
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for taking a snapshot or input from a source and identifying appropriate documents in a knowledge base that are applicable to the input. The system identifies documents that are applicable to the query by identifying comparative features/statements found in the natural language text documents and evaluating those comparative features with the conditions of the input. When the conditions of the comparative features evaluate with the input conditions the document is considered a match. The system processes the documents through a value type filter to understand the mathematical equivalent of the comparative feature and uses this mathematical equivalent in the evaluation of the document and input.

  • Patent number: 9595054
Abstract: A system for managing allocation of resources based on service level agreements between application owners and cloud operators. Under some service level agreements, the cloud operator may have responsibility for managing allocation of resources to the software application and may manage the allocation such that the software application executes within an agreed performance level. Operating a cloud computing platform according to such a service level agreement may alleviate for the application owners the complexities of managing allocation of resources and may provide greater flexibility to cloud operators in managing their cloud computing platforms.

  • Publication number: 20170004205
Abstract: User feedback may be analyzed with semantic hierarchies. In some instances, the user feedback includes free-form text. The user feedback may be mapped to one or more semantic hierarchies that include multiple levels of nodes, where each node corresponds to a class. Information of the one or more semantic hierarchies may be mapped to an ontology model. The mapped information of the ontology model may be used to identify an actionable item for the user feedback, such as a problem, suggestion, question, or other issue. Information regarding the actionable item may be made available to an individual for evaluation of the actionable item.

  • Publication number: 20170004184
Abstract: Free-form text in a document can be analyzed using natural-language processing to determine actionable items specified by users in the text or to provide recommendations, e.g., by automatically analyzing texts from multiple users. Words or phrases of the text can be mapped to classes of a model. An actionable item can be determined using the mapped words or phrases that match a selected grammar pattern. Items can be ranked, e.g., based on frequency across multiple documents. In some examples, the classes can include a suggestion-indicator class or a modal-indicator class, and the selected grammar pattern can include one of those classes. In some examples, the mapping can use a dictionary. A new term not in the dictionary can be automatically associated with classes based on attributes of the new term and of terms in the dictionary, e.g., the new term's part of speech or neighboring terms.

  • Publication number: 20160306689
Abstract: A nexus of a software failure can be determined. A feature module can determine execution features based at least in part on particular execution-related data. An analysis module can determine particular nexus data based at least in part upon a stored computational model and the determined execution features. In some examples, a communications module receives the particular execution-related data and transmits the determined particular nexus data via the communications interface. In some examples, a modeling module determines the computational model based at least in part on training data including execution features of a plurality of execution-related data records and respective nexus data values. Some examples include executing a program module, transmitting execution-related data of the program module, receiving a nexus data value, and executing the program module again if the nexus is a condition external to the program module.

  • Publication number: 20160239487
Abstract: When a computing device has an issue, a detector receives (or retrieves) data associated with the computing device. The data may include parameter key-value pairs. The detector creates queries based on the data and distributes the queries to one or more matching engines, such as an exact matching engine or a proximity matching engine. The one or more matching engines look for matches in an index of database documents. The results from the one or more matching engines are ranked based on relevancy scores. In some cases, users may provide feedback regarding the relevancy of the results and the feedback may be used to recalibrate how the relevancy scores are determined.

  • Patent number: 9262253
Abstract: The discussion relates to middlebox reliability. One example can apply event filters to a dataset of middlebox error reports to separate redundant middlebox error reports from a remainder of the middlebox error reports of the dataset. The example can categorize the remainder of the middlebox error reports of the dataset by middlebox device type. The example can also generate a graphical user interface that conveys past reliability and predicted future reliability for an individual model of an individual middlebox device type.
