  • Patent number: 9836942
Abstract: A person support apparatus supports a person in a laying-down or a seated position. One or more body-mounted sensors detect changes in the position of the person relative to a reference. A control system receives output from the body-mounted sensor or sensors through a remote coupling. The control system uses patient position information obtained from the body-mounted sensors to determine whether the person has experienced a change-in-position and/or a change-in-activity event. Alternatively or in addition, the position of the person situated on a person support apparatus is detected using one or more sensors that are not body-mounted, but rather are coupled to the person support apparatus or to another component of a patient support system. The patient position information is used to estimate the patient's torso angle. The estimated torso angle is used to assess the patient's condition.

  • Publication number: 20160331618
Abstract: An adaptive lift includes a base portion including a plurality of rollers, a lift portion coupled to the base portion, the lift portion including a mast extending upward from the base portion in a vertical direction and a lift arm coupled to the mast, a lift bar coupled to the lift arm, a lift system coupled to the base portion and the lift arm, where the lift system raises and lowers the lift bar with respect to the base portion, a support arm pivotally coupled to the mast and positioned above the base portion in the vertical direction, and a braking system coupled to the support arm, the braking system including a release handle that selectively repositions the braking system between an engaged position, in which the braking system prevents rotation of the plurality of rollers, and a disengaged position, in which the plurality of rollers may rotate.

  • Publication number: 20160256340
Abstract: Slings for rotation of individuals are disclosed herein. In various embodiments, a sling includes a central support section supporting at least a torso of the individual, a superior support section disposed along a first side of the central support section, an inferior support section disposed along a second side of the central support section opposing the superior support section, and straps extending from each lateral side of the central support section. The superior support section includes an anterior support flap and a posterior support flap, and at least a portion of the posterior support flap is separated from at least a portion of the anterior support flap. A central axis bisects the superior support section, the central support section, and the inferior support section such that the sling is foldable about the central axis, and the central axis acts as a fulcrum for rotating the individual.

  • Publication number: 20140345060
Abstract: A sleep apparatus, such as a mattress for example, is provided in one embodiment. The apparatus comprises a head support surface sized to support a person's head, and a torso support surface sized to support a person's torso. The head support surface is generally laterally sloped moving from the first side toward the second side, and the torso support surface is generally laterally sloped moving from the first side toward the second side. In some embodiments, the lateral slope of the head support surface is at least about 15°, the lateral slope of the head support surface is greater than the lateral slope of the torso support surface, and/or, the sleep apparatus slopes in the longitudinal direction as well.
