Patent number: 11948415Abstract: Secure enrollment of a user with an electronic lock is provided. Enrollment with the lock may include a verification process and a secure enrollment mode based on verification of a unique enrollment code (UEC) associated with an enrollment invitation link that may be provided to the user. Selection of the link may direct the user's mobile device to a client application, where an option may be provided for initiating the verification process. The UEC may be communicated to and presented by the lock. The user's device may capture the presented UEC, which may be compared against the UEC generated in association with the link. When validated, the lock may enter the secure enrollment mode, where the user can register an actuation passcode, or the lock may be paired with the mobile device over a short-range wireless connection, which may allow the user to actuate the lock via the client application.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2022Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: ASSA ABLOY Americas Residential Inc.Inventors: Kevin Pasma, Nedal Almomani

Patent number: 11913253Abstract: An electronic lock, such as a deadbolt, with a locking device movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. The lock includes a key fob including a RFID circuit indicative of a valid access code for the locking device. A circuit is provided that is configured to control movement of the locking device between the locked position and the unlocked position. The circuit includes a sensor, such as a contract sensor or a proximity sensor, which detects when a user is within range of a RFID device. When this happens, the sensor is configured to generate an electrical signal, which is used to activate the RFID device for a predetermined period of time. If the RFID device reads a valid access code, the device is unlocked.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2022Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: ASSA ABLOY Americas Residential Inc.Inventors: Nedal Almomani, Thuan Nguyen, Elena Gorkovenko, Wei Hsu, Yos Singtoroj

Patent number: 11713594Abstract: An electronic lock with a lock assembly that includes a bolt movable between an extended position and a retracted position. The electronic lock includes a motor configured to drive the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position. A controller is provided that is configured to control actuation of the motor to selectively move the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position. The electronic lock includes a user interface configured to output information about the electronic lock. A misalignment scoring means is provided for detecting interference to movement of the bolt between the extended position and the retracted position and determining a lock misalignment score based on the detected interference. The user interface identifies the lock misalignment score.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2020Date of Patent: August 1, 2023Assignee: Spectrum Brands, Inc.Inventors: Nedal Almomani, Matthew Lovett, Timothy Brewer

Publication number: 20230203841Abstract: A sensor assembly includes a sensor located within an opening formed in a strike box of the strike assembly. The sensor, which could be an optical, mechanical, continuity, inductive, ultrasonic, and/or mechanical sensor, is configured to detect whether the bolt of the bolt assembly is encompassed by the strike box. The sensor assembly is configured to interact with a surface of the bolt when the bolt is located within the opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2023Publication date: June 29, 2023Applicant: Spectrum Brands, Inc.Inventors: Nedal Almomani, Chasen Beck, Matthew Lovett
