  • Publication number: 20090278742
Abstract: The embodiments of the invention describe a method for antenna selection in a wireless communication network. The network includes a transceiver having a set of antennas. The transceiver is configured to transmit a frequency-hopped sounding reference signal (SRS) over a subband from a subset of antennas at a time. The transceiver transmits the frequency-hopped SRS from subsets of antennas in the set of antennas substantially alternately. In response to the transmitting, the transceiver receives information indicative of an optimal subset of antennas and transmits data from the optimal subset of antennas.

  • Publication number: 20090274110
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention describe a method for antenna selection (AS) in a wireless communication network, the network comprising user equipment (UE), wherein the UE comprises a plurality of subsets of antennas including a selected subset of antennas and an unselected subset of antennas, wherein only the selected subset of antennas is used for transmitting user data, and wherein the UE is configured to transmit only from a subset of antennas at a time. The method transmits the user data from the selected subset of antennas within a set of subframes, and transmits a sounding reference signal (SRS) from the unselected subset of antennas within at least one subframe in the set of subframes to enable antenna selection for user data transmission.

  • Publication number: 20090247229
Abstract: A method selects antennas in a wireless network including a base station and one or more transceivers. The base station specifies times, subcarriers and subsets of antennas to use to transmit sounding reference signals (SRS) to the base station. Then, the transceiver transmits the SRS according to the specified times and subcarriers using different subsets of the set antennas. • Patent number: 7593342
Abstract: A method selects a route in a wireless cooperative relay network of nodes, the nodes including a source, a set of relays, and a destination. A codeword is encoded as a data stream. The data stream is transmitted from a source to a destination via a set of relays. Mutual information is accumulated at a particular node to decode the data stream and recover the codeword. Then, a route from the source to the destination is selected based on channel state information between the nodes while transmitting and accumulating.

  • Patent number: 7583939
Abstract: A method and system selects a subset of antennas from a set of antennas to transmit user data in a wireless communication system. The user data is transmitted during a first transmission time intervals (TTI) using a first subset of antennas. Pilot tones are transmitted during a second TTI using a second subset of antennas. Corresponding channel qualities are estimated for the first subset of antennas and the second subset of antennas from the user data and the pilot tones. Then, based on the estimating, a best subset of antenna is selected from the first subset of antennas and the second subset of antennas to transmit the user data during a subsequent TTI.

  • Patent number: 7542446
Abstract: A method and system transmits an input stream of data symbols in a multiple-input/multiple-output wireless communications system that includes M subgroups of transmitting antennas. A stream of data symbols is provided to a combined switch and demultiplexer. The combined switch and demultiplexer selects a subset L of the M subgroups of antennas as active, where L<M. The demultiplexer then splits the data stream into L substreams, which are fed to the L subgroups of antennas. Before transmission, each of the L substreams is adaptively modulated and coded to a maximum data rate while achieving a predetermined performance on an associated channel used to transmit the substream. Space-time transmit diversity encoding is applied to each coded substream to generate multiple output streams, one output stream for each antenna of each of the L subgroups. The selection by the switch is based on channel conditions fed back by a receiver of the output streams.

  • Publication number: 20090129366
Abstract: A method and network communicate packets by assigning, in each one of a set of multiple transmitters, a power level to a packet to be transmitted during a time interval. The power level is selected from a set of power levels available for the set of multiple transmitters. The power levels in the set range from highest to lowest. There is one packet for each transmitter such that there is a set of packets to be transmitted during the time interval. The set of packets is transmitted concurrently during the time interval to enable decoding of at least one of the packets in the set of packets during the time interval.

  • Publication number: 20090022170
Abstract: The invention describes a method for transmitting a packet in a wireless network of nodes. At a beginning of a scheduled time slot a metric in the node is set, in which the metric indicates a need to transmit a packet to a receiver in the wireless network. The metric is mapped to a received power level and the packet is transmitted at a transmit power level so that the received power level is achieved at the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20090016312
Abstract: A method selects antennas in an OFDMA network. A channel state of a downlink is measured using a downlink subframe received in a mobile station from a base station. A channel state of an uplink is measured using an uplink subframe received in the base station from the mobile station. Next, the method compares the channel states to determine whether the downlink and the uplink are reciprocal or not. The mobile station can perform receive antenna selection based on the quality of the downlink channel state. The mobile station can also perform transmit antenna selection when instructed by the base station.

  • Patent number: 7443925
Abstract: A method generates signals in a transmitter of a multiple-input, multiple-output wireless communications system. The transmitter includes Nt transmit antennas. A transmit covariance matrix Rt determined using statistical state information of a channel. The transmit covariance Rt matrix is decomposed using transmit eigenvalues ?t to obtain a transmit eigenspace Ut according to Rt=Ut?tU†t, where † is a Hermitian transpose. A pilot eigenspace Up is set equal to the transmit eigenspace Ut. A NtxTp block of pilot symbols Xp is generated from the pilot eigenspace Up and pilot eigenvalue ?p according to Xp=Up?p1/2. A data eigenspace Ud is set equal to the transmit eigenspace Ut. In addition, a Nt×Nt data covariance matrix Qd is generated according to Ud?dU†d, where ?d are data eigenvalues. A NtxTd block of data symbols is generated, such that an average covariance of each of the columns in the block of data symbols Xd equals the data covariance matrix Qd.
