  • Publication number: 20170177262
Abstract: Technologies for managing an operational characteristic of a solid state drive include monitoring the operational characteristic to determine whether the operational characteristic satisfies a low threshold and a high threshold. If the operational characteristic does satisfy the low threshold, the solid state drive throttles high power memory accesses requests while not throttle low power memory access requests. If the operational characteristic satisfies a high threshold, the solid state drive is configured to throttle all memory accesses. The operational characteristic may be embodied as, for example, a temperature of the solid state drive.

  • Publication number: 20170075812
Abstract: Technologies for managing a read cache of a solid state drive include establishing a read cache in an otherwise unused region of non-volatile memory of the solid state drive. To do so, a memory region of the non-volatile memory corresponding to the read cache is converted to single-level cell (SLC) mode. For example, the memory region may be converted from a multi-level cell (MLC) or a triple-level cell (TLC) mode to the SLC mode. A drive controller of the solid state drive manages data in the read cache based on a read count associated with the data. For example, data having a relatively high read count may be inserted into the read cache and data having a relatively lower read count may be evicted from the read cache over time. The size of the read cache may be dynamically adjusted over time based on available space and/or operating requirements.

  • Publication number: 20160295256
Abstract: Techniques are described for remuxing multimedia content received in a digital video broadcasting format without performing transcoding of the video and/or audio content. For example, a computing device with a digital television tuner can receive multimedia content in a digital video broadcast format. The computing device can remux the received multimedia content from the digital video broadcasting format in which the multimedia content is received into a target streaming protocol for streaming to other devices. Remuxing operations can comprise demultiplexing the received multimedia content to separate the audio and video content, performing meta-data reconstruction, and multiplexing the audio and video content into a target stream using a target streaming protocol format.

  • Publication number: 20160072856
Abstract: A computer-implemented system is provided that facilitates implementation of a voice-over-IP (VOIP) application. The system includes a host system and a user interface (UI) host process residing on the host system. The system also includes an agent host process residing on the host system which is being configured to process a VOIP call received by one or more VOIP applications executable on the host system. A moniker protocol is utilized for redirection of input and output between a media element which is utilized to render media on a display on the system. The redirection enables media processing to be allocated between the UI host process in the foreground and the agent host process in the background to thereby reduce latency perceived by a user during a VOIP experience.
