  • Patent number: 9644630
Abstract: A supercharger for a vehicle includes a lower body housing a compressor and an upper lid having a contraction chamber. The upper lid includes an air circulation port and is configured to be coupled to the lower body thereby forming a plenum. The contraction chamber is integrally formed in the upper lid adjacent to the air circulation port and includes an attenuator plate that defines a tuning neck. The tuning neck defines an inlet to and part of a volume of the contraction chamber, and includes a predetermined size and shape configured to attenuate a desired sound frequency generated by operation of the supercharger.

  • Publication number: 20030121483
Abstract: A cooling system is provided for an engine utilizing a parallel flow configuration such that coolant flows from the outer regions of the engine block into the engine block's inner core. Parallel flow is used to maintain equivalent cylinder temperatures.

  • Patent number: 6507985
Abstract: Tooling and process for installing a split type, circular snap ring into a slotted or grooved wrist pin journal of a piston utilizing an installation sleeve member with an internal bore therethrough which is positioned against the piston so that its bore is aligned with the piston's wrist pin journal. The bore in the installation sleeve including a tapered passage to progressively radially inwardly constrict the snap ring as it moves axially through the installation sleeve. An elongated plunger assembly is moved axially to engage the snap ring and move it through the bore of the installation sleeve. The plunger assembly is sized to permit it to move through the entire extent of the tapered portion and into the piston's journal so that in turn the snap ring is moved into the wrist pin journal and finally into alignment with a retainer slot or groove into which the snap ring can radially expand outwardly into a seated position.

  • Patent number: 6435150
Abstract: A tappet is provided including a foot having a cam contact surface and an axial bore formed therein; a tappet body having a body portion with an axially extending hub for reception in the axial bore of the foot; and a bearing assembly positioned between the foot and the tappet body, the bearing assembly operating to reduce friction as the foot separately rotates axially about a centerline of the tappet body.

  • Patent number: 5661904
Abstract: A method of operatively coupling an engine connecting rod having an annular opening for a connecting pin with a piston defining apertures in spaced apart pin bosses with the apertures sized differently than the annular opening by use of a connecting pin having a non-uniform diameter, including: first heating the piston so that the apertures in the pin bosses are expanded; chilling the connecting pin; inserting the connecting pin through one of the apertures, the annular opening, and the other aperture; and returning the three parts to ambient temperature conditions so as to axially secure the connecting pin between the spaced shoulders.

  • Patent number: 5549034
Abstract: Metallic piston, wrist pin and connecting rod which normally do not fit together can be joined with one selected component being heated to effect the expansion thereof while another selected component is chilled to effect its contraction. With the heat differentials effecting relative size change the components can be loosely put together in a preassembly. The components in the loose preassembly are then returned to ambient temperature and to specification size whereby a central journal of the wrist pin is trapped between the piston pin bosses in one embodiment and the connecting rod is trapped by the shoulders of a reduced diameter pin journal in a second embodiment to form permanent piston, connecting rod and wrist pin assemblies.
